Youth Bow ?
 

My son who is 12 is 150 lbs and is 5'6" wants to follow in his old man's footsteps and bowhunt. I bought a Mathews SQ2 last year and gave him my HCA Ultra. Now the bow's safest lowest poundage is 55# - a weight he can't yet pull back. Should I buy him a bow he can pull back or should I wait until he can use the HCA? If you think I should buy him a bow, what do you recommend? I don't want to buy a $600 bow and put $500 worth of accessories on it like I did. I would like to keep it around $500 or less for everything if possible.

The pse nova i think can be hunted at or around the 45 lb range. it is a good bow for a beginner, and has the ability to grow with the young hunter for several years. Just an opinion. good luck.

I agree with hunter4ever. Let him build his muscles. They will be here real quick if he works out a little. But I only paid $300 for my PSE BEAST, quiver, 6 carbons, tru glow sights, and my peep sight.

Buckhuntn01, does your old bow fit him properly? If not, he'll have a rough time learning to shoot, and develop bad habits. Maybe even give up. I'd buy him a bow he can handle and learn proper form with, now. I shoot with my 6 yr old son. There's nothing more pleasing to my heart than seeing him hit the target. Browning has the Micro Midas that can be upgraded as he grows. BowTech has the Rascal, same deal. There are also others. If he's interested now, I'd get him started now.

If he can safely pull and hold then I say keep it!
But if your lookin for a new bow Those Genesis look like the Ultimate bow for a growing hunter

Even though the Genesis has a draw range of 15&quot; to 30&quot; it only tops out at 20lb. A good target bow (except for the cost) but not a good hunting bow.

I would suggest the Browning Micro Midas 2. Draw lenght is 22&quot;-27&quot; and weight is 30-40lbs enough for a young hunter. Reasonable price, Cabelas has the kits for under $200 or check around you might find a used one for sale. EBay has 2 selling right now.

My house has 2 and I couldn't be more pleased with them.

Fow What It's Worth (FWIW)...

If you can afford to get him started right with a bow that fits - that WILL allow growth with some changes - then I'd look at the BowTech Stalker or StalkerLITE.

The stalkerlite can be ordered from 20-60#, and 23-29 inches.

Another good choice - that's more tuned to the short adult - is the BowTech ExtremeSD (SD=short draw). The ESD is 40-70# and 24-29&quot;

The StalkerLITE is a bit cheaper than the ESD but they're both good shooters. I'm 31, but only 5'6&quot; so thre drawlength always become an issue - I have graduated into a Pro-38 and Patriot but the Stalker has been quite popular amongst hunters and the vertically challenged.

When i furst got my bow i couldnt pull it back and once i could pull it back i was amazed at how stronger fastly i was getting.
