RE: Wannabe Bowhunter.. Which beginner bow?
Hey Brush, check with Rickmur. He's got a brand new great Darton that he wants to get rid of. In my opinion it's a steal. It's all rigged and ready to go. I believe it's got a Muzzy, sights and everything. It's going to be just a little more(not much) than you wanted to spend. Rigged out the thing is close to $1000. He's asking NO where near that. He bought it thinking he was going to change and start shooting right handed but now has decided he doesn't want to change. That's the skinny. It's a tremedous buy and a great shooter. It will last you for years and years. Draw length is in the range and is adjustable. Also, if you wanted to change the range the cams wouldn't be that much. It's a steal.

If you are looking for something new, I would definitely look at both diamond and reflex. If you want used, I have about 20 different bows I am putting up for sale next week {shameless plug} and there are lots of others on at.com and ebay you can find. If you go the used route, find a coach in your area for at least 2-3 hours of coaching and they will get you set straight as long as you have draw length and weight adjustment. You want a NAA or NFAA certified coach if you can find one.

Look at a Browning tornado or a PSE nova.

Yeh, that's it, look at a lower tier bow when you can have an upper tier for the same money. Apples and oranges to the Darton.

RE: Wannabe Bowhunter.. Which beginner bow?
I bought a used hoyt ultraflex for my first bow..I love it. My buddy bought a new less expensive bow for a little more money then I paid for mine. I have a bow that I will never "outgrow" he is already thinking about upgrading his bow. Just make sure of the person you buy your used bow from.
