HELP interpreting Kansas Bowhunting Rule
 

" Arrows shall be equipped with a
nonbarbed broadhead point with all-metal cutting edges, and
each arrow used for hunting shall be at least 20 inches in length."

So can an expandable be used or not ?? Anybody know for sure ? I am going to call this morning but though I'd post this anyway to see what ya'll think. I think by the wording that they are legal, doesn't say the metal blades have to be fixed or any certain cutting diamter .....

Sounds like mech's are perfectly legal there, since it didn't give a cutting diameter minimum. I think most of the no-mechs states rules state that the head cannot pass through a ring that is x" in diameter.

You can use machanicals in KS. When are you going? I will be there the week of the 18th of November. Hopefully, I will have better luck this year. Good luck.

stealthy I have never heard of a reg written that way, I am surprised there is no minimum cutting diameter, and barbs? I know what a barb is on a hook, what the heck is a barb on an arrow?

I really shouldn't say anything about weird regs though, in Va. your bow must be able to shoot a broadhead 125 yards? I have no idea how few pounds of draw weight you could have to shoot a broadhead that far, but I doubt if I would hunt with one that was only capable of shooting that far.

It sounds like you got your answer already, but that is some strange wording. I've never seen a state give a minimum arrow length, but not a minimum cutting diameter. What else could the cutting edges be made of, plastic, or ceramic maybe? Very strange.

Just called and the three offices I called had no idea what a mechanical broadhead was !! I am suppose to get a call back.

bobbitchen - Hunting with a friend in the NW corner of the state. He's seen a 160-170- class 9 pointer and the area we're going has a good population of does. We expect an awesome season.

Good luck Stealthy. I use mechanical broadheads, and so do a lot of people I know. So far my bowhunting season has been really slow here in KS. Every one of my hunting spots has changed so much from last year. The weather is cold which is good, but with the raining conditions in the past few days, makes the hunting hard. And there is more rain predited. They aren't seeming to move as much. But all the bucks I've seen are sure in the pre-rut. They're chasing does pretty goood now.

Stealthy, I'm not suprised at all that the wildlife offices didn't know what expandables are. I've talked to several people who work in some of the Texas Parks and Wildlife offices and not only do many of them seem to know anything about hunting, many of them almost come across as anti-hunters!

kshunter - I am going to have my Canon Elan and a 300 mm lens with me at all times. I am going to take pics of all those big bucks I see at 100 yards this year !

Got the call - mechanicals are legal. Don't ever hurt to make sure, you know ?
