Is anyone actually using one of these?
 

This is the most rediculous thing I have seen in the last few years in Cabelas' catolog. $199.00. Are any of you guys actually using this? And, can you imagine hanging in this during the day?

If you had to wizz while in the stand are you forced to pee on the tree??

I guess going #2 is now an option while on stand if you could rig some pants with a full buckle to buckle zipper:D..


People use them & swear by them, they look different enough- might just work.

I've never used one but I don't think that is a new concept I remember when I was young (like 12) and my uncle had something like it called a tree sling. It would put your legs to sleep after a while he said. Also wouldn't it make a bunch of noise when your feet scraped on the bark? (I'm thinking of a pine tree here).

I tried a buddy's and found it real easy to climb a tree with lots of limbs quietly and quickly. I personally didn't find it that comfortable to hang there, mainly due to the lack of back support and the fact you have to keep your legs locked to keep you off the tree. Firing your bow wasn't a problem at all, which surprised me, and it wasn't that bad. He LOVES it over a climber. It wasn't for me though. One thing I noticed watching him once acrossa field was that he was "fidgeting" alot more than he realized as any movement of a foot or leg tends to readjust the whole body. You would have to focus much more on staying still than you would in a regular stand.

Somebody on here uses one and loves it. Can't remember who. I've done something similar with my rock-climbing harness for an evening hunt where there weren't any trees that my stand would fit on. Allowed me to get a shot on an unsuspecting deer but it was a LOOOONG wait and I was much younger, not sure I'd do it again, depends on the buck.

When the guy that originally designed it was trying to sell it, it was only $150, still about $100 over priced. POS. Len and I experimented with it a couple years ago. The manufacturer sent Len one to evaluate. He told him he could keep it. Len sent it back.It was called the Tree Seat I believe. All I can say is that in my opinion...POS.

Yep, I have one of these and a treesuit (similar concept).
I don't use them on every hunt. In fact I don't hunt out of them all that much. I don't kill every deer that walks by so I haven't shot many deer out of them although there have been numerous opportunities to do so. A couple of years ago I did kill a 160 class drop tine buck using one.

To my way of thinking they are just another tool in my arsenal of weapons. In some areas I hunt the trees do not want to cooperate with a conventional stand so one must use other means if you have any hope of connecting.

Here is the flip side of my opinion. I would have to agree with a lot of what has been said. As with so much of the equipment we use, it is way over hyped in the advertising department. I wouldn't want to spend all day in the Treesaddle or the Treesuit no matter what the ad says about comfort. I do think a person has a tendency to move around more in one of these so you must be careful how you setup (height and/or cover). Last but not least it is way over priced. I am not sure why, I don't know of anyone in my area that uses one so it can't be a supply and demand issue. There is also a learning curve that needs to be worked through much more than you would find with a conventional stand.

All that said, I am glad I have one.The tree I was in the night I killed the 160 buck was one that wouldn't take a conventional stand.

It looks like it would limit your time in the tree. If I had to stand like that for hours man would that hurt. It looks like it would make a good harness but a crappy stand. How could you keep from moving every time your legs fall asleep?

If there was an area where a conventional climber wouldn't work that you were just desparate to hunt maybe , but being a meat hunter I don't see myself panting over any deer while hanging from that contraption all day . No thanks , I'd sooner hide behind a bush in a nice safe folding chair.

The reason they cost so much is b/c they realize that there are only so manyidiots that would actually buy the gimmick and theyneed to have maximum bang for their buck... Like davidmil said, POS......

I am not a fan of them either, but we sell them at the archery shop where I work part time. Some hunters love them and some hate them. They are popular with a lot of backcountry elk hunters because they are light weight and easy to pack. I myself don't own one and don't plan to either. I do have 4 other hang on stands but even then in the elk country I hunt their are only two directions UP and DOWN, unless a wallow is at the top of a ridge there is always somthing higher. I put a stand over a wallow a few years back, I climbed the tree hung the stand then sat in it to clear the branches. Only then did I realize that the ground behind me going up the mountain was only 20 yards away at eye level. And the wallow in front seemed almost strait down. I quickly took down the tree stand and made a good ground blind. I am planning on buying a nice ground blind soon, just havn't decided as to which one yet.

I know a few guys who use those, and love them. Not for me, but some guys go crazy over them!

I too have a buddy here in MI that swears by them but I just cant see myself in one. What happens when the big 150" comes in from your off side and isnt going to come across in front of you. I would think youwould need to swing your whole body to the opposite side of the tree. Right??? Man that seem like alot more movement than just turning to the right or the left like you would on a normal platform. Who knows???

I read Bowhunting Pressured Whiteails by John Eberhart andChris Eberhart. The authors swear by the Ambush Sling which is very similar. I have not used one, but everything else in the book is solid so I have no reason to believe that this device wouldn't be useful.

You can hunt from almost any tree.

It's quieter than a climber especially if you set your climbing spikes during winter/spring scouts.

You have more options on shooting directions.

The author says not to try it you're overweight.
