Another Black Bear Attack (Washington State)

RE: Another Black Bear Attack (Washington State)
It says the bear attacked a hunter and was killed by another hunter after the bear dragged the guy off. So tell me, what are hunters hunting in Wash. at this time of year that they carry a gun big enough to dispatch a bear?

My exact thoughts also. I read somewhere that when a black bear attacks a human it useually kills where aswhen a grissly attacks it useually maims, that is why you are told to play dead when a grissly attacks. I think I read that in the story where a person was killed in Tenn. a few weeks ago by a black bear. Anyway, glad another person was present to put the blackie down. Very few details were given, hope more come out.

By looking at Washington's Hunting Regulations and Seasons, I would say the hunters were hunting either Coyote or Turkey.

Doesn't Washington have a black bear season? I know that Idaho's bear season already started on the 15th of this month.

Take a look at the link provided above. Washington State has a Spring Black Bear hunt.
I guess that could be one reason to carry a weapon big enough to kill a bear! |

RE: Another Black Bear Attack (Washington State)
Thankfully that story wasnt bout me... I was turkey hunting lastweekend and accidentally walked up to w/in 20ft of a bear. It was eating corn out of a wagon and was on the opposite side as me. Thankfully Im pretty sneaky and was able to sneak away unnoticed. Sure got my heart going when i saw those black ears on the other side of the wagon, not to mention the few choice words I whispered. I didnt think my turkey loads would stop the thing if it decided to get me.

Bowhunting for elk in Colorado last season I walked into a black bear on two seperate occasions while alone. I wasn't worried but just a bit uneasy and nocked an arrow just in case. Each time I just froze and slowwwly backed off until the bears would take off in the opposite direction. Man they can move fast!!!!

Has anybody gotten any more details? I had heard at one point they were running dogs. Has that been confirmed? If so, did they need a special permit?
