Ohio v.s. Illinois
Is Ohio becoming the next Illinois in terms of drawing hordes of hunters to chase monster whitetails? If so, are the farmers in OH already charging a year's salary and a half to hunt their property? Based on the past two years' results OH is definately making (or perhaps reiterating) a name for itself as a premier midwest monster buck hot spot.

RE: Ohio v.s. Illinois
I definately agree with you that Ohio is quickly becoming one of the best states for big bucks. As far as the money situation I don't know. I'm not from there but I have a cousin who lives and hunts there. He said it's not real hard to find areas to hunt. The DNR sends out lists of landowners who are looking for hunters to come and shoot as many deer on their property as they can. Alot of the farmers hate them because they destroy their crops.

RE: Ohio v.s. Illinois
I can't imagine that will last too long if people who have more money than sense start offering big bucks (not the four legged kind) to the farmers for the 'exclusive' rights to hunt the farms. Someone somewhere always has to mess up a good thing. I bet within a couple of years, if the trend continues, OH will be just like IL for non-residents.
But to look at it from another point of view, if you owned a farm of a couple of hundred acres and you could let someone hunt for free or have someone willing to pay you a couple of grand to hunt your property, what would you choose? I suppose I can see it from both sides of the fence, but I guess time will tell. |
RE: Ohio v.s. Illinois
Ohio is were the next world record will come from(IMO),I hunt in MI and OH. There are some central counties were landowners do not allow anyone to hunt. There are some pigs in there, just like Iowa and Ill, Hunting land and access will be very hard to come by. Unless you have $

Ohio can compete in size of bucks for sure.
We will never compete with the number of large bucks taken from IL though. |

We will never compete with the number of large bucks taken from IL though. But see what people fail to realize, Iowa....That is where they are at!! You want a big buck, you can hide behind any tree in Iowa and find one in no time flat!!;):D |
RE: Ohio v.s. Illinois
Anybody notice guys from big bucks states always say another state is better. Right now there is some dude in Iowa, "Ill and OH is where all the big deer are, not here. Do not forget about Kansas, please no deer in Iowa"

RE: Ohio v.s. Illinois
How can anyone pick out of those two states? Illinois has such history and Ohio is shooting 200 + deer ever year now. Heck I am just happy that I have chance to hunt two primo states now if I want!
