HOW "HIGH" are YOU?

When climbing and setting your portable treestands, what height do most people hang their stands?
I myself usually go up about 20 feet. I have a rope that I pull my bow up with and it's 20' in length, I tie it to my safety bar and when all the slack is out I am approx. 20' in the tree.
I have seen some hunters permanent stands as high as 40' in a tree.

RE: HOW "HIGH" are YOU?

I mostly have tree ladders that are 16 feet high so thats about how high I go I have never been seen in a tree by deer so I have never had any reason to go any higher. I don't like climber stands (personal prefrence) I only use fixed position stands.

Anywhere between 15 and 25 feet.

It all depends on the tree and the terrain.

I don't do fixed position stands but I go 25 - 30 feet high in a climber.

At least 20, as long as I have good cover behind me

With my ladders I am 16" high. But my climber and hang ons have me anywhere between 20-30". As said before, it depends on the terrain, cover etc.

I am usually 10- 20 feet. Do the same thing, I have a 20 foot rope and when I get to the end of it, I know I am at least or around 20 feet high![8D]

I go as low as 6' and the highest I go is 20'. depends on the terrain and the available cover. I don't go over 20' b/c I find at that height a light breeze can move a Jack pine several feet which can be very disconcerting! On windy days I sit on the ground.

15 max feet for me, and I actually measure. I like to get them in close, but I don't like steep angle shots.

I like 18-20 staa atop three clibing sticks, I've read articles that 12 is the best, guess if you can get a good backdrop there is no wrong, but I like a low-mid exit wound..

When I hunt from either a lock-on stand or climber, I stay between 15 and 18 feet.

12' to 15' max. im not real big on heights and never felt the need to go any higher than that.

40' permanent stands. holy moly. thats like hunting from the top of a two story house with a 9/12 pitch

Only as high as you are comfortable with. I have killed Deer from 10' up to about 35' high. The tree and the shots it allows usually dictate how high or low I go.

RE: HOW "HIGH" are YOU?

I try to stay around 15-20 feet. Last year I hunted one morning in a buddy's stand that was close to 40' high on the downhill side and a 'comfortable' 35 feet on the uphill side. I've hunted some high stands before buy my goodness was that one up there. It was so high that when I was climbing up I had to stop about 10' below the standand hug the tree to gather my nerves! It was in a mature white oak stand that didn't have any under brush at all in a residential neighborhood. You had to be that high to keep the deer from seeing you (according to my buddy at least). I think had I just stoodon the ground wearing dress clothes looking like I was a local resident the deer would have just come up to me and tried to eat out of my hand. The more I think about it I think the treestand was just for effect. Urban hunting at it's finest. I'm glad I don't have to hunt like that every day.

Am I a SPIKE yet?

Average 15 to 20ft. Not much more than 20 though because like you that is long as my hoist rope is.
