umbrella blind
 
hey guys i went into my local pro shop yesterday and saw the porta roof umbrella for over the treestand...now my question is...how effective would this umbrella make as a blind.

i think i know what your talkin about. if its the same thing, we have 3 of em. we dont use em as a blind though. they work great for keepin the rain off ya though.

It can work if you know the exact location the bird/turkey will be coming from. However if shooting with a bow you're allot better off using a completely enclosed blind.
Although the porta roof will work, you'll have to wait until the bird turns away to draw your bow. In the past I'd used the H.S. Strut collapsible super light blind, it rolls up for storage and opens to a 6' length and 27" height. You can actually encircle yourself with this and cover your sides.

I have one also , I used it for deer hunting one time and can't say that I was impressed with the results . I was in a small thicket of trees facing East , and the morning was very foggy . Two does made their way toward me from the lake nearby , they took a few steps into the treeline , looked dead at me and bolted snorting all the way . It works pretty well as an umbrella though ... ;)

well i was only planning on using it for turkey this season...but from a bowhunter prospective is it good as far as concealment

no its abour half as tall as a standard unbrella when on the ground barely enough when gun hunting but helps conceal your hands for calls or decoy strings. def not good for bow.
