Alex Rutledge was in town today
If you've never had the opportunity to attend a seminar put on by Alex Rutledge, let me tell you -- you're missing out big-time! Alex grew up in the Ozarks of Missouri, and holds so many calling-contest titles I couldn't begin to name all of them. For close to the past 20 years, Alex has been associated with Hunter Specialties game calls, and travels frequently conducting seminars on deer and turkey hunting.
This was actually the second time I was able to see Alex in person, as I caught bits and pieces of him at the Bass Pro headquarters earlier in the year, but the crowds were just horrendous. Today, he came out to help out a local hardware/handyman store that has a pretty decent hunting section. The crowd ended up being around 50 or so, but by getting there about 20 minutes early, I was able to sit right up on the front row. Talk about talented!! I guarantee you this man can make any sound a wild turkey can with his natural voice; he even saidat one point when I saw him earlier at Bass Pro..."Oh, I guess I get paid to use these calls; I better let you hear how they work." Crows, owls, donkeys, turkeys spitting and drumming... you name it, he's got it mastered. It was a tremendous treat to hang around him for a bit today. ![]() I got someone to snap a pic of us after the seminar. He went out in the aisle and was modifying everyone's calls they were buying after the show, cutting little slits into the diaphrams to make them raspier. The guy knows calling better than probably anyone in the world. Alex is a great guy with a heart for God and a heart for getting the youth of America involved with hunting. ![]() |

I would be interested in meeting this guy. I have heard some pretty good natural voice gobbles but never spitting and drumming.
He must be one of those turkeys trapped in a humans body.;) |

Always wanted to meet Alex. Maybe next spring as season approaches and there are lots of seminars, I can catch him or somebody else!

RE: Alex Rutledge was in town today
i caught a hunting show once that did a profile story on him at his farm. he has his own deer and turkeys. he goes out at sits next to the cages and mimicks there sounds until he can do them naturaly without calls. seems like he'd be a fun guy to be in a huntin' camp with.

That boy is funny, but he's made some of the dangest bad shots I've ever seen with a bow. I think he must be the classic case of buck fever at every opportunity.[8D] But he is funny. He's cool..... just a tad exciteable.;)
