RE: Thinking of getting a matthews...any suggestions?

Yes, the Q-2 is a superb bow. Don't forget the SQ-2 if you're just about always going to be in a treestand; the difference isn't much, but it's a couple inches shorter for manueverability.

The FX is a very nice bow at its price point ($400-425 at most places), and you may even find an MQ-32 or an MQ-1 some dealer still has on his shelf he'd be willing to let you steal. I paid $425 for my MQ-1 from just such a dealer back when they were just coming out with the new Q-series bows. I've since shot the Q-series bows, and couldn't tell you a nickel's worth of difference in shooting performance.

Discipline -- not desire -- determines destiny.

yes, an SQ2 shoots like a dream. Like a Q2 just shorter for the stand. Around $600 new. $1000 all set up with arrows.

I have the Q2 and love it. It is one awesome shooting bow. I would get a Legacy, Q2, or SQ2. If your going to hust mainly hunt from a treestand with it I would suggest a SQ2!! Any of them and you cannot go wrong though.

RE: Thinking of getting a matthews...any suggestions?

I purchased a Q2 a month ago via ebay. I couldn't be happier with it. I had Mathews send me the price guide and the Q2 retails for $689.00. I did a lot of comparisons and talked to people who shot the mathews bow before my purchase. I had a Reflex before this purchase and I couldn't believe the difference. No buyers remorse for me. There is no exaggeration when they say the Mathews is the smoothest, quitest bow on the market. I had to give $535.00 for a 2002 model which included a mathews rest(another $100.00 retail) . I would say that I saved nearly $300.00 which went a long ways when I went to purchase a new stabilizer, loop, sight, arrows etc.. In other words check out ebay before paying retail.

I am currently shooting an old Browning Vortex but plan to buy a Q2 this spring. I've shot both the FX and the Q2 and they are by far the smoothest bows I have ever seen but I did prefer the Q2.

here's my opinion: save some money. Buy something else!

Best site out there. Side by side comparison on just about every bow you can think of.

Don't pay an extra $150 just so your bow says 'Matthews' on it...

I personally have a Q2 and love it. But I have heard nothing but excellent things on the Legacy. I don't think you can go wrong with a Mathews. Good luck and enjoy.

The SQ2 is an ideal short range, treestand bow. It has a larger brace height than the others (8.5"), which can be beneficial for clearing heavy hunting sleeves. You can't go wrong with either, but if you value manuverability and clearance then the SQ2 is the best choice.

The best advice I can give you is forget all this Mathews foolishness and go buy a BowTech.

Mathews , Hoyt , Bowtech , they all make good bows!

The problem I have is this: "if your gonna be hunting from a treestand"
What did everyone that hunted from treestands do when our bows were all 40"+ ATA?
Go for shootability (nice smooth draw) and accuracry (IMO double cam)!
If your dead set on Mathews , check out their Icon , I wouldn't mind owning one myself.

"Nocked,cocked & ready to rock"

Q2 all the way an excellent bow, after that for what you want an mq1 is not a bad choice either . Oh and dont forget the muzzy zerro effect rest will fit both those models and you NEED one of those .

If information provided by the members of this board have helped you please let us know .

I think the Legacy is the best hunting bow I have ever shot in twenty years of hunting. Do yourself a favor and try to shoot one. They run $529.00 from my dealer.

Bowfanatic, the answer is very simple, you make do with what you have. I could hunt from a tree stand with a 66" longbow. Does that mean I should or that I want to? By the same logic, what did we do before there were single cams, or split limbs or high let offs, or carbon arrows, or....

I think it all boils down to preference. If I prefer a short bow and it's available, then I should have it. :)

bull1870 - Thats my strategy. I am going back to a compound and have borrowed a HC Excalibur for now. I am going to watch EBAY hard after the holidays and I'll snag a Q2 or MQ32 or SQ2 for $$ less.

I missed an EBAY deal yesterday. A decked out Ultra Max for $250 Buy It Now ... I was a few minutes late

On this whole Mathews VS. Bowtech thing, I have a Legacy and my shooting buddies have SQ's and the "outlaw" of our group has the Patriot. That Patriot is heavy, loud, and shocks badly at the wrist when shot. It is faster than our Mathews by a few FPS but in the end we ALWAYS outshoot him I would go with the Mathews. I would buy a Reflex before I bought a Bowtech.
