We are receiving are 1st smow fall in Iowa. Any input on how a good drop on temp and snow fall effect deer movement? Do deer like to bed in wet conditions?

RE: Weather

Deer eat, sleep, move and live their entire lives in the elements. Do they bed in wet conditions? I have seen it. October 31, 1998 - 7-point bedded down 55 yards from my stand at 7:30 a.m., stood up at 9:45, did a 360 and laid down again until 11:50. Drizzly day.

I believe deer movement occurs all the time, the degree of movement changing for many reasons that we may never know. In my experience, all but a couple of the bucks I have harvested were taken while either raining or snowing. Whether they were moving during those times due to the weather or lack of hunting pressure, I could not say.

But I do know that today and Friday the weather forecast for the areas that I hunt call for rain. I have to work today, but I'm definitely in the woods tomorrow!
