What Release does everyone shoot?

What release does everyone shoot?

This past season I bought a new release for hunting and voted as such. I bought a TruBall Copper Head....and am impressed with it. Formerly I was using a caliper release by ASS....Archery SHooting Systems...and for 3D and in my pack for back up I have a Carter Hole in the Thing. I also own a Trufire.

Rob,
Did you tryt the new Scott Wildcat release? I personally like that much better than the Copperhead, nicer trigger and a great loop release.......since I saw you are using a release this year.

My personal favorite loop release is the Scott Rhino.

You'll get a more natural fit and anchor with a loop specific release style than trying to figure out a proper fit on a longer barreled one.
I consider the Copperhead more of a long barreled release.......not quite like a Scott Mongoose but definitely not the style of a Wildcat or Rhino or Tru Ball Short and Sweet.

I hunted with the TRU Ball Ultra Xtreme with a wrist strap on it to hunt with. For everything else I am using a TRU Ball Backtension Gold.

Another vote for the Scott Wildcat…just another piece of the puzzle that contributes to good accuracy.

Carter Big Kid 3-D; If you want to get serious about accuracy get a Carter! I'm a gunsmith and there's no other sear system in the world on any release or rifle trigger that even compares to the sear on a Carter release.

I just love my Winn free flight. I have tried a few others but some odd reason I like my Winn. the caliper has lasted since 1991 and I did have to buy a replacement glove about 2 years ago.

Use a Scott Mongoose and really don't like it that much. I need one that I can extend the trigger out farther, this release is really cramping my shooting style. I have an old wore out Cobra release that gets used more than my good one.

KodiakArcher 03-16-2006 12:04 PM

RE: What Release does everyone shoot?

Rammer, If you need to extend it out more try the Scott Wolf. It has an adjustable head length and you can loosen the wrist strap a bit to get even more reach if you need.

I love the wildcat too. I might not buy another release until this one takes a dump on me, which i'm sure it will be a long time.:D

RE: What Release does everyone shoot?

Rob,
If you look closely they are actually quite different.......the easiest way to tell is the location of the trigger in relation to the jaws. I think the Copperhead trigger lays 1/2" or more farther back than the Wildcat, and the swept trigger design exaggerates the loaction even further.

The proximity of the trigger on the Wildcat allows you to maximize the bow's powerstroke by not having to drop down in draw length to accomodate the addition of a loop and maintain a proper anchor.
Believe it or not with a loop specific release and a properly tied shallow string loop it's possible to actually INCREASE your bows draw length and still maintain a proper anchor.

Long gawky loops and long barreled releases are a horrible combination for proper fit.

(The trigger on the Wildcat is better too ;))

We'll play around with different stuff when we get together, but until then, consider what I'm saying and look at your set up........with that long loop you have and a release that is already giving up hand position you aren't getting the most out of that bow that you could and still maintain a proper anchor.

Plus a short solid loop connection just FEELS more solid and consistent.

We'll play, you know this bow and it's loop are new to me....I suppose you can teach an old dog new tricks...so, what are you doing tomorrow?;)

I use the most reliable release anyone can have my fingers. Im a fingers shooter.

RE: What Release does everyone shoot?

I use an old Cobra Armstrong glove release for hunting. I like it because its a glove and fits pretty good and the arm swings down so you can tuck it in a long sleeve and its out of the way but easily pulled out and you can climb or handle stuff with the glove on. I also have a Cobra strap with the swing away arm and its o.k. but the butt where the arm attaches still sticks out and kind of bugs me when its bumping stuff, etc.

How much are the Scott wildcats?

RE: What Release does everyone shoot?

I switched over to a Scott sabertooth this year after about 6 years with a TruFire hurricane glove. Best thing I have done for my archery addiction.

Basically it's the double caliper version of the wildcat. Fantastic release and for a hunting release I don't think there is one better. It's equal would the the wildcat if one prefers a single caliper.

Ducsauce, they are going to run about $80 - $90 retail.

Fingers! If I wanted to pull a trigger, I'd be shooting acrossbowinstead of a bow. ;)

I also shoot fingers. I have in the past used many different releases, my favorite being a Tru-Ball King Arthur. It was a no travelcombination, thumb and pinky release.

Gave my son his choice.......my Carter or my Scott Lil Goose. He chose the Carter so I am stuck with the Scott. But I am actually beginning to love the Lil Goose. Wanna Wildcat or Sabertooth next though.

There's nothing odd about liking yourFree Flight. I Love mine. I feel like I can pull about 10 pounds more because of the palm bar and wrap around design. I also like the short head because it maximizes draw length. For a hunting release you can't beat it in my opinion. I'm suprised they aren't more popular.

I shoot tru ball and scott. I have a scott long horn. A truball ultra 4 bt, a truball saber tooth, a truball stinger. Truball has a backswept trigger design for one purpose. To release easier when using back tension. you can wrap your whole finger around the trigger. Making it easier to push and pull.
