I was just curious what you guys paid for a switchback or what they cost at ur local shop. I am thinking of getting one but they cost $769 at the nearest dealer and it seemed a little steep for just a bare bow. Thanks for you input!!

My local pro shop sells the Switchback for $613 and the Switchback XT for $625. 45 miles west to another Mathews dealer and he sells them for $679.

$769 here in Massachusetts is the going price for an XT.

My local shop had some 05 SBs for $729 as well.

Something I don't understand is that I went to a bow shop the other day.

They told me that the dealerships are required by Matthews to sell their bows at a set price. If that is the case, then why are all dealerships different?

Personally, I don't care that they can sell them for less, because I am looking into buying an LD, and I would love to play less than $738, but according to the shop, the price is supposedly "SET" by Matthews.

Is what the dealership telling me true, or are they just using it as a reason to not lower their price?

By the way...the XT was $718, and the LD was just about $20 more than that.

I have worked for a Mathews dealer before and I also just bought a XT from the local dealer here. Mathews does not set the price, they just give suggested prices. The dealer can sell it for whatever he wants. For instance, I got mine for $675 and another guy I know got his for $700. Reason being that I am in the store all the time and spend a lot of money their. The other guy is never in there but still got a good deal at $700.00. The dealer that is telling you this isn't being truthful from my experience. Maybe it is different in different states. Hope this helps.

A shop here in Wisconsin was selling them for $750 but that included a FREE whitetail shoulder mount by a champion taxidermist. Normally they charge $450 for a shoulder mount. That's a dang good promotion.

I am not going to pretend knowing anything about a manufacturer setting the prices. I do know that my nearest Mathews dealer is selling his SB's lower than anyone else in the state as far as I know, and he is doing it with Mathew's blessing. The one thing that I do know Mathews is making him do.........setting up and hunting with an '06 SB XT instead of his favored '05 SB.

i dont think mathews sets there pricing for there pro shop stores, because the shop i deal with give me a 50 dollar discount because me and a body bought one the same time. it cost right at 700.they mite giving some guidlines on the price. i cant imagion that they make the pro shop owner set one up and has to use it. unless maybe hes a pro staff or something and mite be on camra. i dont really blame them for him to shoot the newer bow. but who knows!!!!!!!!!!!

I had been told by a semi-reliable source that Mathews was "spanking" some authorized shops for selling too cheaply. How much is too much and based on what (MSRP, Dealer cost, etc.. ) I do not know.

From what I've been hearing in this thread though. Either it was horse pucky info, it didn't have any effect or they haven't got to "everyone" yet.

I can tell you 2 weeks ago the Kittery Trading post in Kittery Maine had last years models they were trying to get rid of for $450.00. I just got the Q2 used but just like brand new all set up belive it or not for $250.00 with 10 Carben extreame arrows. I really love that store. Well, I must say that I feel a bit disillusioned by my Local Archer shop guys now. Seems that I have been decieved. Kind of makes me feel that the dealer just didn't want to give me a deal.

Hey Mike Hill...I have been to the Kittery Trading Post. I lived in NH, and Maine for about 5 years up in the Rockland area. We would drive down there just for S&G's. It has been about 12 years since I was there, (I live in St. Louis now) but I have to say I always liked that place. Small world.

Local shop here quoted my friend $799. I know someone who got a much cheaper quote from the same guy, and one $749 quote in Mass, so my friend is taking his business to Kittery. They quoted him $699.

Was told $615 for the SB and a little more for the XT (Cannot remember exactly).

That is almost $100 cheaper than my shops quote.

In Charlottesville, VA the local shop has the XT going for $685. I drove 35 miles to another shop and they had it for $625. I ordered one today for $599! :)

As a dealer and pro staff shooter i can tell you that mathews does set a price but not a set price,only a price to not go below to keep from under cutting other dealers.This leaves plenty of room for discounts and other deals , we offer a discount on all accessories when you buy plus 4 hours free at our indoor range

Im From Niagara Falls New York and i just priced out a fully loaded 2006 Switchback xt with whisker biscut, sight, zero peep, quiver and12 carbon arrows all this for just about$800

$699 here but I would hold out as their new 2007 line will be coming out this spring and a 2006 XT will drop considerably in value. Bows depreciate worst than a new car.
