RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Smart money says that kshunter enters a buck pool or two next fall...
Here's to getting a whack at him next year. |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
hopefully he stays the same size or bigger
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
ORIGINAL: deer-hunter18 Why would you want to buy the sheds? |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Naaa, I wouldn't want to sell the sheds. Not until the day I really need the money. Hopefully that day will never come.
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Man, what a bruiser. I couldn't imgaine finding a set of sheds that big. Geez, that would make shed hunting a little easier to do, look for the tree limbs made of antler :D He looks impressive in the game cam pics, but you really can't appreciate his size until you see the pics with you and the sheds. I was wondering what happened to that big guy and its good to see that he made it through the season, I really hope you get to let the air out of him come archery season.
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Kshunter, well since you dont wont to let anybody hunt that buck, good luck and I hope you find him. But if you change your mind and want to sell a hunt let me know, you might be surprised how much a hunt for a buck like that goes for.
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
TXhighrack, you're right,he'll probably bring more than I'd want to know.. haha But the deer brings a lot of enjoyment in my life, and gives me a good feeling going into next fall. And at my point in life, that to me is priceless.

RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
INCREDIBLE! score?
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Does that mean, given an oppurtunity, that you would not harvest him yourself?
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
I would get the sheds mounted though, because even if you do take him next season, your father will also have a set on a mount to hang on his wall.

RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
That thing is HUGE! I wish we had bucks like that around our place;).
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Picture has to be fake, nobody would ever wear that kind of shirt. ;)
At 183, what rank would that come in in your state for b/c or p/y? Just curious. Bobby |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
That is unreal! You are a very lucky guy to have him on your hunting grounds. Good luck with him in the fall.:D
PS: I just read your field journal and boy are you really lucky. Only 15 minutes to find those. WOW! You gotta get him next season.;) |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Holy schnikeys....thats huge!!!
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
You did a wonderful thing last season on passing on him, so he could reach his real potential :D
Had to say it. Wishing ya the best of luck on harvesting "your" deer, you deserve him and don't sell him out! |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Joey
Man I am real happy for you. That's awesome you found 2 years worth of his sheds. Do you plan on going back to possibly find the other side of last years? I am glad to see you have a journal. It was a great entry I enjoyed the story and pics. I look forward for more in the future. Best of luck on your quest to take that giant. The story line has been written..... You two will meet up this fall,it's destiny! |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
that is unbeliveable, Holy crap
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
ks hunter, those are indeed some very very large sheds.
I hope you bag that buck next year and I wish you the best of luck. However, I have noticed how everyone is praising you and hoping that you harvest this buck next year. (THEY ARE SAYING THIS NOW) Don't be suprised if the comments are different after next seasonis here. If you do harvest that buck, you will see many (not so nice) comments. You will hear such things as, some guy knows some guy that knew a guy in a bar that seen you poach that deer. Or the fact that it wasn't you at all who shot that deerand that it was some other guy. Or you might also hear that you had already filled your tags and you harvested that buck on an invalid tag or (somebody elses). You might even hear that someone knows where you shot that deer and that it was on a penned in ranch. Anytime anyone post pics of big deer on here (or a deer that might not have perfect shot placement), there ishuge delema surrounding it. Yes, they wish you luck now, but just wait untill you actually harvest that deer And it might be a little different. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you do get that deer. I am just warning you about something that alot of people on here (besides myself) are alreadyaware of. This is the (INSTANT) speculation of many many people: (IF SOMEONE SHOOTS A BIG DEER, SOMEHOW IT MUST HAVE BEEN TAKEN EITHER ILLEGALLY OR UNETHICALLY) And no matter what, they will find some story to support their claims. *It was poached *The hunter claiming to have shot the deer was not the real shooter *The hunter's tags were all filled before he shot the deer and he had to use someone elses tag. (AND THE ALL TOO FAMOUS) *I know someone, that knows someone, who knows that hunter, (and he hunts in fenced in areas) |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)

I'm just not going to play there stupid immature games. Just my 2 cents on that buckstalker, this is not directed at you but, what you implied is the truth in some situations. Bobby |

I am glad you see my point 121553, and I too agree that when someone comes on here with a photo that they should not have to deal with the ridicule of some of the members. I was just giving KS a heads up.

RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Awesome buck and my hat is off to you for not chasing the allmighty dollar. I would never dream of selling a hunt for a deer like that or any other deer as far as that goes. I wouldn't sell the sheds either. Hats off to you ks and good luck on yer quest this fall.

|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Joey,
Awesome buck!!! I'm just curious, what type of terrain was the bruiser bedding in during the season? Does he bed on property that is off limits to hunting? It's amazing how those monster bucks just disappear..... Good luck this season! |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Doublecreek, It's tough to know where he is during hunting season. There are alot places he could be... Timber, Pasture, CRP.... A lot of it is tough huntingwith a bow. Especially during the rut, the bucks travel a 2-3 mile area cruising for does. I have game camera pictures of about a dozen bucks from the same area, so there are a lot of "cruisin" they do, figuring the land is pretty open. But after hunting season, the deer winter in the same timber area every year. So the best hunting seems to be late in the year, when it's sub-zero temp and snow. I don't hunt in the timber, as it is small and i'm a firm believer in keeping a "Sanctuary" where they can stay and not be disturbed. It seems to work well to keep them in the area.
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
You're right about the santuaries, I've been doing it for about 4 years now and it's working beautifully.
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
WOW thats amazing!
|
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Joey
I posted on this thread once already but was curious.... Do you have any estimation of the age of this buck? What are the dominate food sources in his core area? Do you have any photos from 2 years ago? Sorry if any of this was asked and I missed it. |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Scott,
After studying his game came pics, and last 2 years of antlers, I'mpretty surehe was 4 1/2 years old last year, and will be 5 1/2 this season. If not, then he's deffinately not any older than 5 1/2 last year, and 6 1/2 this year. The last 2 years of shed antlers was the main give-away to his age. He grew an estimated 45 inches in one year. It's very likely a deer would grow that between 3 1/2- 4 1/2 year of age, rather than 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 years. Like most places around here,Wheat, Milo,Cornand Beans are the main food sources. The only photos I have of him was from this past fall. |
RE: Found Some Big Shed Antlers (Pics)
Good sized buck there, good luck getting him :)
