I don't like internet purchases all that much for fear of purchasing the wrong thing. When there are 247 ebay items, it's even less reassuring.

I need some of you guys who have the legendary "Mickey" to post an ebay link to the correct boot I need for cold weather bowhunting. The stuff I found on ebay all range in price from 30 to 90 dollars even when they look the same and are from the same seller. [:-]Some of them look like typical bulkey rubber boots while others have slimmer lower profiles. Some are steel toed while others make no mention. Some look knee length and others not. And what's with the valve? I'm is cunfoozed. S.O.S.

I grew up wearing basic cheap hiking boots. Just wore extra socks to keep warm. Always worked for us.

I'm not sure where you live but here in WI that doesn't work, especially not when you hike a half mile to your spot with your stand on your back, your feet sweat for those 20 minutes, then once you get into your tree, that moisture meets single digit temps.

Mickeys are US Army issue boots designed for this sort of environment and will wick away moisture. I know a few guys here swear by Mickey's and they know which ones work best. Hope they see this.

Mickey Mouse boots are big bulky rubber boots, with an air nozzle fitting like tires on the side. They go up about as high as a normal boot. It is critical you know how to use them or you could do damage to your feet!

Through 1968-1970 I was stationed in Alaska and part of your cold weather issue was the white Mickey Mouse boot (black are Korean war issue) the air valve you are seeing was to help with decompression of the boot at high altitude when flying. I had a horrible time with them do to my feet sweating and then the interior of the boot would ice up, I finally turned to the Air Force canvas and felt pac Mukluk's which allowed moisture to wick out. Cablea's cold weather boots are designed much the same way (iditarod). There are many boots and options capable of keeping your feet warm. Today I use a Rocky Sno-stalker boot that seems to work well, I also use artic shield boot covers when I wear lighter boots and they will keep me warm from dawn to dusk in November.

How would you rate those boots you mentioned compared to the Mickey? Also, has the design for the mickeyremained that way since the 70's orhas itimproved?If so, is there anything distinctive about the newest design that I could identify?

I really don't know if the design has changed much, I went to the web site posted for USA Sams and they still look the same. I had also not seen the black boot with an air valve before. These must have been a newer model or a repro of the Mickey Mouse boot. Originally black was a Korean war boot (mickey mouse) and the later white boot was a bunny boot issued in the TA-50 arctic package along with or ECWS items.

I know you're asking about Mickey Mouse boots BUT... you can do better. If you already have some fairly heavy boots that are insulated and water proof just use them. Instead of more boots buy some boot blanketsl. You can pick them up for about 40-50 bucks. YOu wear your boots in with your wicking socks and all that stuff. When you get in your tree slip on the boot blankets. It'll keep you warm and you won't have the trouble of sweaty feet from the rubber boots. The boot blankets will do it. IF you decide you're going hunting in 30 below or something you can throw in some boot warmers/handwarmers. Make sure you buy boot blankets that'll slip easily over you boots.
