Come on now. Do you really believe black straps from a stick or stand is going to spook deer? I have straps all over the place and bucks and does walk right by them without blinking an eye all the time. There are black hues all over the woods, so I seriously doubt a few black straps are going to ruin your hunt. Deer are not going to be alerted by black straps.
It matters were you hunt and how much pressure you have. When I setup a stand up like I posted hiding black straps. I am not hunting Deer, I am hunting mature buck, which is a totally different animal. I havehad fawns lick my tree sticks.

Black Straps?????? I'd worry more about the skid marks in your undies. Black straps show up for you, but for a deer a horizontal small dark line is a limb or something else. It's that 200 pound blob above the straps that set them off.
160 lbs, man you' re kinda chubby. Its more about when the stand is first put out, not when I am in it. See I am putting these stands in bedding area, and I do not hunt until the rut. When your in a mature bucks kitchen you do not want to disturb a thing. I set the stands up in Feb clean all the limbs, etc. Then make a quick trip in August to put the stand up, and ge out of there. Next time you walk thru the woods looking for your stand see what you notice first. If you can see it so can the mature whitetail(doe or buck). Which is why majority of deer seen and shot by all of us are 1 1/2 olds.

You guys have all given me some very valuable information. I will surely put it to good use come OCT 1. Thats when our season starts and I can't wait. I would really like to see this thread continue. It seems there are some that have not posted yet, but alot of hits to the post. Please pass on your experience/wisdom so the rest of us can at least try to be better hunters. Thanks, LT

The black straps on treestands and climbing sticks. They stick out like a sore thumb in the woods.
Believe it or not, this is one detail that I don't overlook either. In the offseason, I spray a vertical stripe with grey primer about every six to eight inches on the strap to break up its outline.. I do it to hide my stands better from human eyes, though. If it helps with the deer, bonus.

I caught myself locating my stands in the woods as I was walking to them a couple years ago by that broad black strap, and finally realized that if that was the easiest way that I was identifying my stands, it was probably the easiest way that other humans were spotting them as well. After having a stand stolen this past season, I'm breaking up the strap like I said with the primer as well as locking them down with a rubber-coated cable and lock.

Great point Greg, and I too think that way, it's less about the deer spotting stands than it is other possible thieves...and it's a shame we have to hide our stands from fellow hunters...as if we don't have enough challenges against hunters.....

Deer love thick cover especially thick cover along the edges of woods and food sources. In the early season I like to setup in a corner over looking a food source maybe 5-10 yards in the woods. Deer love corners and points which provide good cover for them. I have been successful hunting these types of setups.

LT stick with what these guys have tought you, and invest in a good 3-D Suit.
Camo can never be too effective so blend in as much as you can.
very well said.
