How fast................

How fast does your bow shoot?
My Reflex Superslam is at 244 fps, according to TechnoHunt (Dont you have to add 15 to this or something to get true FPS?)

oh how do you tell how fas tit shoots then from the IBO speed

newman1 02-26-2006 01:51 PM

RE: How fast................

Best way is to shoot it through a chronograph.

RE: How fast................

h how do you tell how fas tit shoots then from the IBO speed
You've got to take several things into consideration. How much does your actual draw length vary, plus or minus, from 30"? Longer is faster, shorter is slower. How much does your arrow weight vary from 350 grains? Lighter is faster, heavier is slower. How much does your draw weight vary from 70 pounds? What string accessories - silencers, peep, kisser button, nock sets, string loop - do you have mounted on your string? Each thing you put on the string slows your arrow speed.Do you shoot release or fingers? Fingers release generally gives slower arrow speed.

I used to know how much to add or subtract for all that stuff to get an approximate speed, but I must be coming down with old timer's disease. Can't remember any of it now.[&:]

Even after all that, then you have to wonder if they were completely truthfull when they listed the IBO speed. Some manufacturers aren't.

The only real way to know how fast your bow is shooting is to put an arrow across a chronograph.

My Switchback is shooting 275 fps fully riged. Thats not even near the fastest bow out there but the bow is so quiet and shock free that I shot a turkey this year renocked and shot another one out of the group before they realized what was going on. When you can do that with them tuning fork Trycons let me know. :D:D:DJ/K don't bust my danglers.

happy with it.

Don't worry, my Trykon Xl is pulling out 291 fps, and its defiantely stealing the scores at competition and league, so I won't bust your danglers:D. Now harm done, for I took 2 pigs this year with it, and never had to look to a second shot with either. Whatever you use out there, a 265 fps arrow will do the job as a 290 fps arrow would, that is placed where it needs to be placed, with the right cutting edge, and all that jazz.

309fps out of an 05' Allegiance w/ 70lbs @ 29 3/8" and 356 grain pro 22's.

My constitution is slow right now, no idea. 549 grain arrows at 29 3/8" and 51lbs. Probably in the 230's or so. I am sure it will be in the 290's when setup for 3D though.
