There actually was a 511 pound whitetail taken in minnesota in 1926. I found the info in one of my hunting books so if anyone has any disputes take it up with the author.

I was refering to when the 412lb deer got picked apart by all the people. Everyone was claiming photo shop there.

If a mancanget to be 800 +lbs it shouldn't be too much of a stretchto believe thatan animalspecies whose average adult weight is about the same as ours can reach 500.

I second that, that's been the theme around here lately. Oh that's photo shopped. It has to be. Blah blah blah. It seems like everything must be a lie if no one else has had it happen or has heard of it.

This is 500 lbs on the hoff. So you do the math. That would have to be one hell of a deer

RE: 500 lb buck?

The Minn DNR backs the claim of a 500 lb buck. As far as photographs it could have been possible but it wasn't as easy as today. The first camera to use film was distributed in 1888 by George Eastman and the first color film was available in 1940. I'm not saying there isn't a pic, just that I could understand if none was taken.

RE: 500 lb buck?

Actually I have read several places that the "verified" record weights for both WhitetailAND Mule deer are exactly the same........511lbs.
(With the whitetail being taken in Minnesota as mentioned)

That's a whole lot of deer.[:-].......bigger than the last 3 that I shot combined?!(Heck , here in PA maybe the last 4!?:D)

In responce to dohcrxl

An 800 lb man would not survive in natural conditions , nor would he get that way in the first place , you could not sit on the couch and have food brought to you , if you lived in natural conditions , say like the indians who used to live on this land , I seriously doubt any of them toped 250 lbs , even the big guys who were 6' plus .

Not a good comparison

dohcrxl 03-02-2006 09:00 AM

RE: 500 lb buck?

Oh sure it is 'cause it's a mere comparison of what out of control eating habits and low metabolisms can do to both man and animal. I'm no doctor of the field by any means but it doesn't take a degree to see that genetic mutation is quite possible in humans as it is in the realm of the animal kingdom. Suppose thatin a buck's gene coding there's mutated programming for him to reach 100 lbs more in muscle mass, 6 inches morein height, 4 inches more in length than the average mature buck in his same habitat of 200 lbs. This makes him 300 all muscle. Throw in a voracious appetite and you've got an already big boy who has now become a 500poundlard arse. 200 extralbs is not going to make him immobile to where food has to be brought to him.

EDIT: Oh Jimmy, thanks again for the no-peep you sent me. It really did help me remember my anchor point better.

Of course there are. Me and Elvis were on a bigfoot hunt in NY and saw a mountain lion chasing one that was pushing 550lbs.
