NEW #2 TYPICAL ALL-TIME, #1 P&Y

I just watched the news tonight and they showed a deer killed in Missouri with a bow, December 2005, that net scored 210 P&Y after drying time. I forgot the name of the guy but it was a press release from the Missouri Dept of Conservation. They showed a photograph, that didnt do it justice, regardless it looked like a monster.

Has anybody else heard about this?? I cant find anything on the net.

I would think if it were true it would have made teh rounds on the net by now, you sure it wasn't just a Missouri record or something?

They said the deer scored 210 that is more than just a Missouri record. The only photos i seen were on tv.

As far as not being on the net by now. Maybe the person wnated to keep it quiet until the drying time. I Would believe something on tv quicker than on the net.

I thought P&Y didn't include deer that had velvet? Or were castrated?

titleist_03 02-21-2006 12:58 PM

RE: NEW #2 TYPICAL ALL-TIME, #1 P&Y

I was under the same understanding. Velvet deer don't count. Regardless its a hell of a buck!

That is a great buck, but no way is that the world record P & Y whitetail. First of all, it's in velvet which would have to be removed for scoring purposes. Secondly, once all of the abnormal point lengths were deducted it wouldn't net enough to be the new world record P & Y whitetail. I sure would like to get one like that though!

I think the deer we see here are two different animals. The one on the news channels website is the one I saw on the news. This is the one that was shot in missouri. The pictures below are of a different deer I think. The deer that was shot in missouri doesn't look as wide and its antlers look like they come straight out of the side of its head. Take a close look. I might just be seeing things.

The new world record buck would fetch quite a bit more than $100,000. I have a picture of a buddy of mine who knew Larry Hoffman when he purchased the Jordan buck and the Breen buck. He also purchased another buck at the same time and paid $200,000 for all three. The Jordan buck was $100,000 by itself and this was after Milo Hanson shot the current world record buck. The one on the left is the Breen Buck, The one on the right is the Jordan buck. The guy in the middle is my taxidermist buddy who moved up north when he retired.

Scoring that buck as a typical would be no where near 210". It would lose too much in deductions. GREAT buck just the same!!

Two things stand out to me.
1.) Shot in December, but still in velvet.
2.) The pic where he's holding the rack look FAR LARGER and FAR WIDER than the back of the truck pic.

These aren't accusations, just what I noticed.

RE: NEW #2 TYPICAL ALL-TIME, #1 P&Y

I'm not the smartest deer hunter around, and I don't claim to know all the answers. I checked out the pictures from the web, and read the article. I would have guessed that a deer killed in Dec wouldn't still be in velvet. Either the pictures show a deer in velvet, or they're fuzzy. That's just my opinion.

RE: NEW #2 TYPICAL ALL-TIME, #1 P&Y

Here is a artical about the deer from the Columbia Daily Tribune
http://www.showmenews.com/2006/Feb/20060204News005.asp

I too didn't think a deer in velvet could be entered in the record books.

But who cares about a record, it's a awsome deer.I live in and hunt central Missouri, I've never seen anything like that around here, but the story gives me hope. Some day, some day....

RE: NEW #2 TYPICAL ALL-TIME, #1 P&Y

Uh huh... After reading the article, now I understand... That's 210 by Buckmasters scoring, not P&Y or B&C. Buckmasters justlists the gross measurement, withno deductions. And I guess they don't give a rip if the buck is in velvet or not. I'm sure it's a big deal for those who really care about such things.

Even if it was perP&Y score, I'm sure it'd have an asterisk next to it in the book to show it was taken with a faux bow.;)

All that stuff aside,I wouldn't mind having that mount hanging over my fireplace. :)

RE: NEW #2 TYPICAL ALL-TIME, #1 P&Y

Arthur P, I just read the link before your post and was going to say the exact same thing you did. Buckmasters is not the same as P&Y and B&C scoring, thats why they can call it #2. Great Buck though. Wow.
