10 yards and.............

no shot!!! Man I was flustered to say the least yesterday. I had been on stand for about 30 minutes when I saw a group of 4 doe enter the powerline across from me just like they had the last 3 times I was there. My stand was in the right spot, I thought to myself "This is it". Boy was I wrong, the wind for some unknown reason swung 180 degrees blowing straight to them!!! Well within 5 minutes they all started checking the wind and decided something was not right and turned back the way they had come.

I sat down and just shook my head, well I decided the wind has screwed me so just as I got ready to pack it in the wind swung back to its normal direction, so I sat again. About an hour before dark two doe come out from the far side again and proceeded to graze straight towards me, "Aha now it is the time". Wrong!!!! They came to withing 10 yards of me, I could count thier eyelashes, yet there was no shot! Some how they had managed to come in at just the right angles to never present me a shot at all!!!!

Taz,
I've had that happen several times with bucks and does. Like you, I still have not gotten my first bow kill either, heck, I've never even shot at a deer in my 3 years of bowhunting but I just keep plugging away and I just keep telling myself that my time will come.

royak you are right, patience, it has payed off numerous times for me gun hunting over the years, bow just tkaes more, but I am getting there, a few more cut limbs and a few days rest on this stand and my time will come.

chef I agree that where there are doe there will be or are bucks, there is a nice big rub less than 20 foot from my stand. The thing is we can kill tree buck and a ton of doe to boot.

goalieman32 hopefully this year will be the year for both of us, good luck!

Taz, when it all comes together it will seem so simple and so easy. All of the effort, the waiting, the failures, and frustration will be but a memory. It will happen. Every moment spent on stand gets you that much closer. :)

Taz, I can tell how many shots I passed before I took that first one. Your doing the right thing, soon you will see nothing but the broad side of a deer....it will come.

Taz,

I lost the opportunity about 2 weeks ago on a really nice 10 point at 13 yds. I had watched the buck come in for about 200yds, and when he approached my stand he unexpectably stopped. I was going to let him just pass before drawing to get a quartering away shot. Well I drew the bow, and just as the pin was coming to target just pass the shoulder he turned and left. I saw him disappear in my peep, just needed about 2 more seconds. Man I know how it feels. <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

Aim Hard!

Hang in there Taz...it will come! Then all the frustration will be behind you. Like some of the others here...it took me a few years to connect with my first...it will be something you'll never forget!

FL...man that's a bummer....guess that's what makes bowhunting such a rush. Although...I can say that I've never been able to experience your pain....at least not on a deer like that. Good luck getting him.
