I missed the biggest buck I've seen in years!
 

Last night at 5:45 I saw a buck through the trees making a scrape. He was 60 yards away or so. I hit my grunt call a couple of times to no avail. At 6:15 two fawns without spots that I see everyday exited at the end of my field 75 yards to my right. 5 minutes later the buck comes out, following the same path that the fawns took. I hit my bowgrunter plus set on doe, he stops, looks, keeps on walking. I hit it again, he stops, looks, keeps on walking. His antlers are bigger than I thought. Taller on one side than on the other, but huge for around here. I am loosing light fast and my heart is pounding, about to give up hope when I hit my grunt call 5 times right in a row softer though. This gets his attention, now he is running right at me! I didn't think it would work, I thought maybe just maybe he would walk my way instead. I had never thought he would run! I estimated him to be at 17 yards when I drew and shot. I shot low. I could see my arrow's white feathers gleaming sticking in the dirt. He jumped and trotted to about 45 yards and stopped. He looked and looked and looked. I hit my grunt call softly so he wouldn't spook too much. He started walking to the edge of the field 75 yards away then he started wheezing and disappeared. I was shaking so bad I couldn't see straight!

I am going to avoid the area for a few days or maybe try it on a morning instead. Where he was scraping is just on the other side of our property line. I am thinking about setting up an ultimate scrape dripper too. He was a huge 8 point, maybe a 16 inch spread, 9 inch G2's on one side and about 13 inches on the other. I have never called a deer in before, so know I know to be prepared for them to run right at you!

Sounds pretty cool, I will assume the rut really hasn't started there if he didn't come in to a doe bleat, I turned a nice basket 8 last year with a doe bleat during the rut, but I bleated one to many times and he decided if I do not see a doe yet it is time to leave. BTW good luck on getting him later.

Sounds pretty cool, I will assume the rut really hasn't started there if he didn't come in to a doe bleat, I turned a nice basket 8 last year with a doe bleat during the rut, but I bleated one to many times and he decided if I do not see a doe yet it is time to leave.

I bet you dropped your arm and peeked when you released, atleast that what i did a couple of years back when I missed the biggest deer I'd ever seen. I shot low too.

My husband said the same thing. I am sure that's exactly what happened. The shaking didn't help.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Wow....That was exciting....I'am sorry you didn't get him......now that your blood pressure is returning to normal you can relax...I don't think you scared this guy...he will be back and so will you...I'am glad you didn't swallow your grunt call!!!!!!!!!!!!
