I got one!!
Saturday evening around 6:45, i'd been in my stand since 4:00. I was watching a bottom to my left when I caught a glimse to my right about 4 feet away this 3pt comes in. He was limping on his back leg and he was walking past me and quartered away that's when I drew my bow and he stopped and I put the pin a little back and released, he pitched his hind legs up and took off, I heard him running through the brush then I heard him crash and it got quiet. I waited an hour and started looking for him, after about 30 min. I found him. My shot at him was less than 5 yds. He ran about 40 yds. The arrow passed through and exited behind his left shoulder. When I was looking at him I discovered that he had lost his left rear foot. I assume he probably lost it when he stepped on a animal trap. The deer weighed 78 lbs. field dressed.

RE: I got one!!
I believe that this was a good management deer to harvest. He obviously had lost his foot when he was younger because it had grown over and was callased pretty good from him using it. He wasn't able to breed and the bigger bucks probably pushed him away. Does anyone think the same?

RE: I got one!!
Congrats on the deer, I have always felt that taking wounded or crippled deer is a good idea. You are right about him probably not being able to breed, however I wouldn't bet on it, I saw a show that had both a 2 legged dog and cat that got around just fine.

RE: I got one!!
Congrats on the buck but I doubt a steel trap would have led to the deer losing a foot. Be careful where you put blame - the trapping guys love thier sport as much as you love bowhunting.

RE: I got one!!
I didn't mean to say anything offending or blame, I used to trap for coons and bobcat. I don't know how the deer lost it's foot, who knows, maybe it was born like that.
