Default Got my stand back - and a new area to hunt

Last week I went on vacation. The hunting land that we have hunted for the past 10 years is now gone because the farmer has decided to lease the land to a local insurance company. The company intends to sublease the land to whoever can pay the top price.

Anyway, before the lease was finalized the farmer graciously allowed me to hunt on his land. One morning, Oct 14, I went to my stand to find it wasn't there. To make a long story short, the farmer ended up with it. Apparently the insurance company had put money down on the lease, something I was not aware of, and took my stand down. They ended up giving it to the farmer when the farmer asked them about it - he's also the local cop.

The day I got the stand back I introduced myself to the farmer who owns the joining property. The land is actually twice the size of the land I use to hunt. The farmer is allowing me to hunt along with a family friend on the land. So this season is now far from over. What's that saying about closed doors and opened windows.

I went there this weekend to ground hunt and scout. Around 9:00 a.m. I saw the biggest buck I have ever seen in my short 11 years of hunting. It was six yards away from me behind a tree and I could not get a decent shot on him. So I took the opportunity to count tines. I counted 7 on the left and 6 on the right (there may be a few more I'm not sure because of the brush). A half hour later 4 doe came in. I got busted by a doe that was so close that when she snorted I saw the snot fly out of her nose. She was only 3 - 4 yards away. It was without a doubt the most exciting hunting experience I have ever had. I just wish I would have had that tree stand in place.

Glad you got your stand back and by the sound of things you know exactly where to hang it<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
