RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
I started hunting this year at 15 ' but then moved up to 20' and 25'. The higher the better. I got spotted a few times while 15' high.

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
When I hang a stand, I'll hang near 20' depending on foliage and terrain. When I use my climber, again if foliage and terrain allow, I'll climb until my I feel my bow on the end of my 25' tow rope...

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
It depends mainly on the tree that I pick out. I usually go between
17 ft and 20 ft. Sometimes the tree I pick out will not let me go but 12ft to 15ft and thats ok for me if it has some leafy branches to help hide me, you just have to be more careful when you move. And it also helps wearing clothing like Scent Blocker and using a cover scent like raccoon scent. |
RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
it depends on where i am and everything. normally 15-25 feet, big spread i know but every stand is different.

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
Depending on foliage I try to go as high as I can until my climber levels out, probably 20-25', and when using a strap on stand I generally use 9-10 screw in Cranford Ezy-Climb steps......bout 15'-20'.

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
I usually stay between 15-17 feet. I just bought a Summit ViperX5 and in the instructions it says "Not to climb higher than 15feet, that it's unnecessary"

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
I use hang on stands and like to go 22 - 25 feet. But will go to where I need to be to get the best shot or cover the most trails. Have been from 14 - 32 feet.

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
the higher the beter 20-30 feet up i go
|
RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
Most of my places you have to be 30'. There are some real heavy cover areas where you can get away with being lower. We have too many deer to be any lower.
|
RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
i go 20-25 i don't like being to low i think they spot you easier

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
when bow huntn, around 16 ft, is really high enough, depends on terrain, wind, etc. just remember when bow huntn, the higher you get the more downward angle your arrow will fly and less or smaller target area. really no text book answer, its all up to that pertectular hunt, remember just be safe.

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
Hello
I also hunted for years at around 15 foot. Lately I almost always use a climber and will go as high as the tree allows or my thirty foot retrieve strap comes to its end. Sometimes of course, my height is dictated by surrounding branches, obstacles that block good shooting lanes. Usually I'd say I'm 25-30 feet up. End result, the higher the better, its easier to stay unnoticed. The shooting angle makes the shot a little more difficult, but a little practice helps tame that problem. Dan |
RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
i usually hunt about 20 feet in an open stand and about 10 ft in a permanate box stand.

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
I got spotted the first day outlast year at 20' on flat terrain, I was shocked. The spike came down the trail and stopped 20yds behind me starring right up at me. I moved to 30' and they walked right under my stand.

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
I usually hang my stands at about 20-25 ft. The deer have never seen me.
|
RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
As high as I can go. Rifle season I was 4o-45 ft. Nice view!

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
I once put my stand just 2 feet off the gound. Tree was in a great location and surrounded by under-brush that hid me really well, but branches would not allow a climb. Really only used the stand to get off the gound and be comfortable. Had a shot at a doe that never knew I was there, but let her pass in hopes of a buck...that never came.
Most often, 15-25 feet. Craig |

RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
The height varies on terrain, foliage and ground cover. If I’m on a steep hill my stand placement is 20 to 30 feet. In a flat terrain I normally go just high enough to get into the upper canopy for cover. Seldom will I be below 15 to 18 feet.[/b]

try to get at least 15 to 20 feet, depends on tree and how far i can get up it with climber....
|
RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
When I used my climber in the early years, I would routinely go to 30 feet . . . and hardly ever got spotted.
Now I use screw-in steps and go to 18-22 feet . . . and hardly ever get spotted. |
RE: HOW HIGH DO MOST PEOPLE HUNT IN A TREESTAND
