Just curious about who hunts on Georgia military grounds and what type of success they have had...this one is my only whitetail ever, taken at Robins Air Force Base, GA.

Hey Everyone,

Ive been in the Army for 6 years and was stationed at Ft Stewart, GA and am now at Ft Leonard Wood, MO. Many military posts are known for their great deer hunting oportunites as well as very good fishing. I know there is a yearly contest for a Big Buck award on Ft Leonard Wood and Ive seen some very nice pictures of quality bucks. It is a great chance for soldiers to get some hunting in on their off time without having to travel long distances. I on the other hand, have gone home the last two years to Iowa to do most of my hunting.

My dad is a pilot in the air force and they let them kill the deer because they run onto the runways and get hit by the planes.

Ft Benning, GA is excellent hunting. Not a lot of big bucks but plenty of deer andgenerous state seasons/bag limits. Try up along the Northwest corner around Kendall Creek. I looked at the topo maos and couldn't my the exact site. Local butchers are cheap and plentiful.

I don't blame you for going back to Iowa. Great state to for hunting whitetails. Welcome to the site.

I'm a 24 year navy guy currently stationed at Patuxent River, MD. The base is 1,700+ acres with some great hunting and fishing. Total harvest this year was 119 on base, more bucks than does, more good bucks than not-so-good ones. The link below will take you to our rod and gun club photo site and all of these were taken on the base.
Not sure how to make it a "clickable" link, but you can copy and paste it if you're interested.

Ft Gordon has excellent bow hunting. lots of deer. some nice bucks if you are willing to wait. hunted there since 93. Go north to Ft Campbell and the hunting is great also. Most of the military post i have been on had good hunting even around our nations capital. can't wait to get out of Afghan and back in the tree stand. missed last season.

I live in jacksonville NC home of camp lejune and have hunted there with great success, sorry no pics. My only probelm is all the hoops you have to jump through to hunt there. You have to have a state license,a base permit, then you must have a military sponsor, check into a specific area, check out at a specific time...all of this to hunt land that my tax dollars pay for. On top of that all the military personnell have free roam to hunt anywhere on or off the base. The thing that boggles my mind is that I see marines hunting on some of the private land that I hunt and also the state game lands. They just don't realize that they have the prime hunting land in the county/state at their fingertips but they don't like hunting the base because they can't use their rifles? I'd hunt with a spear if I could come and go freely....go figure:eek:
