1st night out w/success
Well season started sept 14th. And tonight I finally was able to get in the woods. Ive been busy and havent had enuff time really to do any scouting. but I have been passing through the property riding looking for tracks crossing the road and getting an idea of the travel and where. I came across this area that was just tore up, you could just see the trail going into the woods. Ive been keeping my eye on it for about a month. well tonight I jumped in there. what I had to do was not want I wanted to do, but sometimes you have to take a chance. there was a strip of older growth about 75 yards off the road that they were crossing surrounded by small pines and I had to take their trail to that area. Well I found myself on the other side of this strip and at a dead end what happened was the trail made a turn to the left and deeper into the pines so I looked around for a tree and jumped in the first one that I seen fit. well once up I could see that the trail continued on and that I would be able to see if anything was to come from that area figuring they would be heading from that way. well after about 3 yrs on stand I heard something to my left and turned to look and he was looking right at me on the trail I came in on (a young six point) well he didnt like what he seen and went left and out of range through the pines. well about 1/2 later I hear something coming from behnd me. He came right out underneath my stand and stood there, well he turned back around and went back where he came from. I could see him through the leaves, thats when I made my move and got into shooting position, waiting for him too step back out. well about 5 mins passed by and I heard something coming from the area I was watching and turned my head to look. It was 3 does, well they turned and went on there way, well he didnt want to lose them and started coming out from under my tree again and when he did I drew took aim and released. The arrow went in back on the fourth rib on the right side and exited out of his left shoulder complete pass threw he ran about 25 yards and I watched him pile up. He was a nice spike and my first deer this season on the first hunt out. Cant get any better than that. cant wait to taste him and get out for another hunt, espicially with the rut on the way...........good luck to all this season
