Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Well as you guys know there was a certin 10 pointer that i wanted sheds from and i havn't gotten any pictures of him since Jan 8. Well i figured out why. Someone shot him with a Muzzle loader on Jan 9. I think it is the same buck what do you guys think.

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Here is the rack. I hope i get to meet this guy so i can give him the pictures that i have and the shed from this buck when he was a year and a half old. I would also like toCongratulate him on a wonderful harvest.

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Sure looks awfully similar to me. The only thing I see right away that raises some doubt is the G4 on his right side. In the top photo it appears straight and in the bottom photo it has a definite hook to it. Although camera angles can play tricks on you and everything else seems to match up identically. I would say chances are that it's the same buck, but you just never know.
EDIT - upon further review the G2 and G3 on his left antler in the to photo really appear to be close to sharing a common base, whereas in the bottom photo they are separated by a pretty good distance. I just don't know what to think. |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I agree with Justin; I noticed the "hook" right away... enough to cast suspicion that this may NOT be the same buck...
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
that and if you look at his right side brow tine it looks to have a little spading going on and there also seems to be a sticker right under it. I dont know, this thing was shot about 5-10 miles from where the pictures where taken. I am praying to god when i go check my cam tomorrow that there is some picture of him.:(

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
That is generous of you to provide the guy with a pic and congratulate him. Shows a lot of character...but there is no way that buck is only 1.5 years old...he's at least 2.5...don't ya think?

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Nope, not the same buck, but certainly from the same blood line.
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
i think they are diffrent..but same blood.....i noticed the others diffrences...and also the live pic seems to have more mass then the rack..couldjust be the pics but i say they are diffrent....howd you get the pic of the rack if you dont know the guy?? just curious...both are nice bucks...good luck......

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
They are not the same buck. If you look at the picture of the deer that was harvested, the G3 on the left side of the picture(deers right antler)has a crook in it. The picture you have of the other deer feeding looks like it has a pretty straight G3 to me compared to the one that was harvested.

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
In your photo I can only count 9 points. Maybe the angle. The coloration looks different and in the skull photo you can see a little kicker on the base of the right antler. Hard to tell but I don't think it's the same
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Scratch my above post. He looks like he has4 pts. on the his right side in the top pic, and 5 on his right side in the second pic.
Shane |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Not the same buck!! JMO but look at the tip to tip also.
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
After copying the pic and blowing it up I would have to say its not the same buck. Too many obvious diffrences, spalding/webbing on right brow and it has a small sticker at the base, both G3 's appear different at the tips they both seem to have a sharper bend than your pic, left side G3 looks like it has a flat or damaged tip, etc ...

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I will need a visual confirmation. I will hunt your spot next year with the picture. If I see a deer looks like yours I will stick an arrow in him. Call you and we will both take a close look. Just to be sure!!;)

Call you and we will both take a close look. Just to be sure!!;) LOL! I will also need to see this deer in person ata distances of 15 yards, broadside. It's the only way I'll be able to help! Joking- but hopefully this dead deer is his brother and you'll get another shot at him. Good luck! |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
The differences that you guys are calling out are not possible to say with such clarity given the quality of the photo as posted.
The sticker point could be there. The coloration is OBVIOUSLY going to look different, I don't need to go into photography and light effects and such do I? Look at the left side (The deer's left). Look at the angles between each tine on that side. Look at the lengths of each tine as it compares to the next tine. Also notice the unique "sway back" that the tines on that side do. I'd give it a 90 something % chance that it IS the same buck. Bring YOUR picture to the guys house, and at night use the same camera to take pictures of the rack at the same distance at various similar angles. |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I tend to think there is an obvious point missing from the right antler.
You can see the point plain as day on the skull mount, but nothing on the live picture. The live picture is actually turned a little bit to the left so the point should stand out even more. But, hey...that is just my opinion. |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I think your buck is still roaming around your woods.
It looks like a different deer to me. |

You can even see the shadow of the palmation of the right brow tine in the first picture. |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
No way its the same deer.
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
No way that is the same deer. The one in the cuddeback picture clearly has a piece of a tree stuck in his antlers and I can't see it on the other rack. It could be blending in with the realtree background but I don't think so. ;););););)
Honestly I think the one in your picture only has 4 on the right side as well. I don't think there is enough angle difference between the two to completely hide the G2. |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I would say twin brothers, but not the same bucks... Deffinately shot out of the same area though!
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Looks like the same buck;).
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
That point you are talking about would be the G2, which is shorter and to the right of the G3 (looking head on), turning the rack to the left would move the G2 behind the G3 and possibly hide it. |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Same deer no ?'s asked and you should recieve a award for what you are willing to do by giving the guy a shed and a pic of this buck. You are the definition of a true sportsman. Hats off to you and I know you will be rewarded for your generosity.

RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I sayit is not the same deer. Other then them being the same class (in score) I think most similarities end there other then the obvious typical frame.
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
same buck , just different angle.
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
if you look, it seems the live pic has more mass, the live pic has a bigger "V" shape inbetween the G2 and the G3 on the deers left side. the right side G3 has more of a hook in the live pic than the skull mount. he may be still out there[&:]
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I would guess NOT the same buck -- but same genes. For the following reasons:
1. The 'live' pic was taken on Jan. 8, and you said the buck was shot with a muzzleloader on the Jan. 9 approximately 5-10 miles away....seems a long way to travel in January in one day. In the rut this may be possible, in January I doubt it! 2. Color of the antlers -- The color on your deer cam show a much whiter antler and different coloring. The color on rack with the skull is much duller, almost old looking? 3. G2 and G3 on left antler -- on your trail cam the deer has more of a 'V' sahpe, on the skull it is not the same angle. 4. The left main beam curves more on the skull than the deer in your trail cam. 5. The dead deer has a distinct G4 on the right side - it curves in -- on the trail cam, the deer seems to have a different 'regular' G4. |
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
close but not the same buck
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
not the same one there is still hope but that is probably his twin bro
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
yes looks close to me..... then I am no expert! [8D]
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Well i am still waiting on my friend to set me up with this guy to take a look at the rack. I have 30+ pictures of this deer and yes it is a 5X5 the G2 is hiden behind the G3. I dont know what to think, hopefully it is not the same buck. But if it is then the hunter needs to be congraulated and his hand shook. I will have all of the pictures and the shed when i go to his house if it is the same buck, he can have the pictures and the shed. I am sure they would mean more to him then me. Thanks for the opinions guys, i will update you when i get to see the rack. (If ever)
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I do not think that is the same buck. How did you get the rack anyway?
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
I dont have the rack a friend of my friend shot it during muzzle loader season.
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
Definitely NOT the same deer. The deer on top only appears to have 4 points on the right beam. The bottom deer clearly has 5.
|
RE: Terrible Terrible NEWS today!!!!!!!!
It has 5 on both sides here is a side view so you can see this.
