Did my good deed for the day!!!!!
Hey guys, as most of you know I just got a Old Glory and I still have my Allegiance. Well, tonight I was shooting with my buddies younger brother and he was having problems with his bow. He is new to archery and is shooting a old hand me down High Country that feels like a tuning fork in your hand when shot. This kid is a really good kid and has had a tough time since starting archery hunting this year. First morning he shot a buck and decided to let it sit a few hours, when he went back to the public land they were on and tracked it he found drag marks where someone had drug it away. Later in the season someone stole his stand from the same woods. Well, I got to talking to him and offered him my 2005 BowTech Allegiance for dirt (and I mean DIRT) cheap. I had it at the shop with me and let him shoot it for awhile and he fell in love. The bow seemed to fit him pretty dang good, the draw length may be a hair (1/2" or so) long but he is still growning. He fell in love with it and couldn't believe the differance in noise, hand-shock, vibration, and stability between the two bows. I know the kid worked hard all summer to save up his money and I didn't want to take him for a ride so I offered the bow to him for $300.00 with everything on it. He was pumped up to say the least and he is really looking forward to getting the bow tommorrow and for his brother and I to get it all set-up for him this weekend. I sold the bow to him with a Trophy Ridge Matrix Guide series sight, a Cobra drop-away rest, 4" Mossy Oak Obsession Stealth Stabilizer, Fletcher Tru-Peep, and Simms Camo LimbSaver Ultras.
I'll keep ya'll updated on how he does, its always great to see someone get so excited over a bow. Remember guys, not everyone has the money or people to influence them into getting in to the sport. We all have to step in and try to give back a bit. |

Great post, Jason!
You say you didn't want to take him for a ride, but I'd say you almost took yourself for a ride, if it wasn't for the joy and satisfaction you're going to have for a long time knowing what you did to encourage this young man to obtain more enjoyment from the sport which we here love so much. I remember when I went from my first starter bow to my first high-end bow, how much of a difference that made in my attitude and what it did to solidify my feeling that I could be effective and ethical while simultaneously deriving so much more enjoyment out of bowhunting. Congrads to you! |

That's awesome man!!! I admire you for your generosity! There are a lot of guys who like to say that they'd do something like that, but when it comes down to it they won't. I think it's really important that men pass things on to younger generations. I'm a big believer in the fact that masculinity bestowes masculinity. I'm not saying that being a bowhunter makes you more of a man, but in that kid's eyes you were affirmingto him that you care about him and you think he's important- which makes him feel like more of a man. There's nothing more you can do for a kid. You've made a huge difference in his life. HE WILL NEVER FORGET THAT DAY!!!!That's awesome that you made that happen- I wish there were more men like you to teach our sons. Thanks BUCKMAGNET for a job well done!

I heard you couldn't give a bowtech away... Guess I heard wrong.....[8D] But either way, you did good man. |
RE: Did my good deed for the day!!!!!
LOL, you guys.;) tsk tsk....[8D]
Buck, you should do good deeds on a regular basis, we all should...but nice job on this one...when I'd replaced my Hoyts from year to year, I'd usually let the previous years model go for about that price...of course that's about all I'd had to pay for new too....Today's bows are much more expensive then before and I agree, you did a nice thing... |
RE: Did my good deed for the day!!!!!
Cool story and a great example for us all. Giving back to get someone started who is in need makes our sport all that much better for everyone.
Now if we could get rid of a-holes that steal stands and trophy kills we'd be all that much better for it. Thanks Buck-M |
