nocturnal deer

After developing 3 rolls of film from my trail cams, I have only caught one deer in marginal light. The rest have been in total darkness. I am getting lots of activity as the motion sensors max out at 99 each week. This is on a property that ajoins public land and we have always seen plenty of sign but not that many deer. This seems to indicate that the deer just simply don't move that much during daylight hours. I've got the cameras out again this week and if I get the same results I guess I will have to purchase night vision equipment to hunt them next year. Just kidding about that as I am well aware of legal shooting hours.

I think that with the warm spell we've had since it was so cold in December, the deer are moving later at night to conserveenergy. I think that it is too warm for them to move around in the sunlight.

After the middle of November almost 100% of my pics were after dark.

I have a corn feeder and a Cuddeback up on my hunting area and the only activity I'm getting is after sundown also. It seems as though they wait at least a day after I fill the feeder until they show up to eat. One pattern that has proven to be consistent so far is that they do show up between 6:30 PM and 7 PM most days. Right now it's getting dark in the woods at about 6 PM here in VA.

That's the way deer are guys. By nature they will move little by day. You know when the rut kicks in that changes but thats the way they are built. Don't get me wrong they will get up and browse around every few hours but the knight belongs to them.
