Be careful, don't be fooled by the sign

Well, I went out today and did a little scouting and moved my camera. I went to an area that befor this season was a hangout of a very large buck that left a lot of sign. This season, however, there was very little sign(I finally figured out that the buck that stayed there was the one that was hit by a car and has aVERY BIG rack with part of it bent over his neck, I guess he chose not to participate in the rut and left no signs of his dominance, he still limps around pretty bad). Anyway I went there and I could see what I though was a pretty impressive rub line, there were trees torn up every 10 feet or so on a trail. I thought that I better check it out a little better. Turns out that there were only 2 rubs and the rest were where deer had chewed off the bark from the tree. Sure looks like a rub, but you can see teeth marks in the wood. Would be easy to confuse someone.

Someone posted somewhere not too long ago about an incident where a captive whitetail was witnessed eating a squirrel.

You sure you ain't seein' beaver sign? :D

Either that, or the deer in your neck of the woods are starving!

I usually only see bark eating when the weather is real bad and there is snow on the ground , but the weather has been springlike here. I guess the bark is just that tasty, I think that it is healthy food source for them.

recent studies from scientist show that a rutting buck encountered a BEAVER in estrous.. turns out the baby came out fine.. they are rare but are starting to spread..the males chew on trees for dominance immitating rubbing( these mysterious animalsare also knows as beaverlopes!!).. also naturists have proven some trees come flavored in all different varietys!!
lol ;) just messin PJ... but no i've never seen that .. i guess i've never really checked out a rub that closely , maybe theres good nutrients in it for them?
