old farts

I was wondering if any of you older guys have had to deal with this or not. It seems that I can't do anything anymore without pulling a muscle or waking up sore. I used to pull 70 lbs. without a problem. Then the last few years I've started creeping down. Now I am thinking of just going ahead and getting a 50-60 lb. bow. I just don't see the need to keep up the macho image anymore, it's too painful. Has anyone had any problems with passthroughs at lower poundages?

hey, i hear ya man!! with me it's my elbos,i took my x-tec and changed the limbs from 70lbs to 60lbs. i guessi could have cranked the bow down but i like to shoot the top end of the bow . anyway i shot 2 deer this year- both passthroughs, one deer walked away stoped stood there 2 mins and fell over dead!! but remember good broadheads and shot placement are the keys!!

Well 1st of all how old are you????????????????? I did lower my bow down here a couple of years ago from 70 to 65 and I am 85. OOPS I mean I graduated in 85. You do the math, I would not dream of going any lower than that yet but I guess it is what you are comfortable with. Truthfully as long as yer out there shooting and you can get the job done who cares how many #'s yer shooting. Man Antler Eater is 197 and he is still tearing them up. That is why he never takes off that mysterious mask in his pictures he is really just a skeleton under that. :D

I hardly think late 30's is old!!!From your profile you are only 38!It's not like you have one foot in thegrave and the other on a banana peel.

I'm 41 (just turned on the 13th) and I feel great with the exception of all the broken bones and torn ligaments I suffered throughout my football career. I still lift weights and stay active. Get out and get some exercise or something.:DDon't just assign yourself to the fact that you can't pull back a 70lb bow anymore....do something about it. You are by no means old!! or even close, You should be in the prime of your life!

If you really want to drop your draw weight go ahead, you will still get passthroughs at 60lbs no problem. If you drop below that you might want to think twice about longer shots though.

I would suggest you start lifting some weights and build your strength back up. We will all get to a point where we will have trouble pulling back heavy bow weights at some point....some sooner than others, but don't go down without a fight!;)

get your @$$ into the gym!:D yeah you're getting old but it's prolly because you're allowing yourself to.[8D]

Powerlifters don't even start hitting their peak until their late 30s and they're putting 800 pounds over their heads! I think with a little workout now and then you can manage 60 or 70!

In all seriousness, go see a doctor, get yourself checked out (make sure your ticker is good, your bp is normal, cholesterol, etc. ) and start an exersize regimen. You'll be amazed at how much just a few hours of exersize a week (jog a mile three days a week, pull ups, pushups, dumbbell curls or better yet join a gym.) will make a difference in your injury rate.

Just 30 eh? You're at the top of the hill my friend, careful you don't let yourself fall "over" it. :D
