Since this is my first year bow hunting, I wasn't going to take a shot over 20 yards...unfortunately nothing came in that close. I'm going to be practicing all year out to 30 and 40 yards...still prolly wont shoot that far, but if I can hit a bullseye at 40, it shouldn't be any problem going through both lungs at 20

When I was younger and shot bow all the time I'd take 40 and 50 yd shots. I've killed several at 40-50yds. I know alot of guys think I'm just BSing. But I'm not. About15 years ago I shot all the time My buddies and I use to go to 3-D shoots a couple times a week, and usually come home with a trophy.

I use to practice regularly at 50yds. Try this, for two weeks. Only practice at 50yds. When you shoot long distance you MUST have good form and follow through. If you don't you will miss by alot. You don't really notice this at 20yds, but it really shows at 50, when you don't follow through.

If you practice at 50yds for 2 weeks and then move up to 20, it is like a piece of cake. Now, when you practice all summer at 40 and 50, you will take those shots in the field, if everything is right.

Nowadays, I don't get into the archery as much. My bow is outdated and there doesn't seem to be enough time to practice the way I use to. These days I limit myself to about 30yds.

My longest shot was 43 yards broadside with perfect conditions! I am confident out to 40 yards but I don't take to many over 20 yards! Anyways I usaually have them under 20 yards! I like to shoot 50 & 60 yards at 3-D shoots and at home but not in the woods!

i usually don't shoot over 25-30 but there is one place i hunt that has a road going through it which would allow me to take a 40yd shot...but only if a deer walked by...and only if it was perfectly broadside.
