A good range finder can only help you! Go for it! I have the 440 and don't go in the woods without it!

I have Bushnell Yardage Pro 600. As soon as I get situated in my stand, I range about 5-8 landmarks around my stand and then put the finder away. I haven't used it with a deer within bow range, but I suspect the extra motion would get you busted. When the deer appear I use the landmarks to get the range. Works well for me.

I got a 440 for xmas. Have not used it in the woods yet, but I ranged everything around the house. It's quite accurate too!
