Todd-I think you should sell your bow and move to Hollywood and write for Jay Leno....I know it's hard to laugh at a time like this but your description of this hunt was funny!!!! We've all been there...you stand up to stretch and you hear a loud snort and all you see is Horns going over the hill...or you lower your bow to the ground and turn to get your coat and you see horns looking at you..It happens but at the time it's not funny !!!...Keep us posted...sound's like your in a good area and I've got a feeling this is not the end to this story!!!!!!! Bad day? What do you mean? Sounds like a great day to me. Ya learned somthing, saw some deer, and it rained. Getting a shot would just be iceing on the cake.lol
Last year in my ground blind, just about 6pm I have does moving all around me. I see two Very nice bucks coming in. I watch as they get closer. At about 16-17 yards the larger of the two goes behind a bush and I start to draw. I had been watching the does in front of me.... I did not notice the doe that had come up behind me and was standing about 5 yards to my right. Stomp, snort..I take my eyes off the buck for a fraction of a sec. and that was all she wrote. Poof they were gone. Rick Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote. |

thats a good one but, maybe you should move your tree stand closer and pick a differant route to it. i had something like that happen 10 years ago, moved my stand and saw alot more deer .got one too! GOOD LUCK!

I would've done the same thing, Todd. I can't stand sitting in the rain getting soaked; I've never seen a thing.
But... I'll remember this post the next time it starts raining. Maybe you'll help me to stay put a little longer. Or catch a cold. Discipline -- not desire -- determines destiny. |

That's what is all about. I hate to say it but sometimes deer are smarter than people. The hunt, trying to outsmart the deer on his terms is what I find so exciting. Think of it this way, if you would have stayed in your stand and the deer went the other way, you may not have seen them at all. At least you know they are there and it shouldn't be hard to stay until after dark knowing they could walk out of the woods at any moment. Good luck!

LOL, one thing I've learned in over 30 years of deer hunting is that deer appear when you least expect them, so it's best to expect them all the time.

Yep...been cought with my bow on the ground already this year...know how you feel. and for the tantrum...been there and did that when I relized my release was still in the truck!

LOL as others have already said that was a sad, but FUNNY story, I already had something similar happen to me this year, but not of the magnitude you had, got to dark to see the pins, stand up to pack up, hear this huge crashing through the woods right behind me!

Straightarrow is right, deer always appear at the time your least prepared. You want to see a big buck, stand up in your stand and scratch your butt, you'll see the big bucks butt disappearing in the distance. Your tired in the stand and decide to quit early and every deer in the woods will appear magically between the climb down from the tree and your vehicle. And then, one day, everything works and you get a deer. I'm ready for that day.
