New Bow or Not?
 

Ok i have a big question that i have been contimplating lately.
I have a 03 Bowtech Patriot. i know a place where i can get a new tribute for 700 or last years allegiance for 650. He also has a 05 Defender and 05 Justice. Should i sell my bow and get one of them or keep mine? How much do you think i could get for mine?

the only thing that is really stopping me is that i really want a new truck and that may be hard to do if i get a new bow.
any comments appreciated

If you shoot the patriot well, there is no need to upgrade. The patriot has the speed of the new bows and is still a smooth shooter. Save up for that truck, that's what I would do anyway.

you know i considered getting a new bow . i have an 05 patriot but when i went and looked and shot some new bows nothing was better than mine. some were just as good but nothing better. if you are happy with your bow. if it shoots well .if you are comfy with it and it hits its mark then i say keep it and start savin for a bow that will come out maybe next year or so that is better. BUT its up to you . you can probly get 150.00or 200.00for an 03 patriot. if you get a new one i would just keep it as a back up.

I think your bow is probably fine for you.

I have an 05 Defender and it's a really nice bow. I shot the 06 Tribute and I think it is just a little bit better than mine. I want it, but it's not worth the $$$ hit I will take to upgrade.

Bows are like computers now. Every year they have new inovations and get better. More speed, more forgiving, less hand shock, quieter, etc... The problem is, unless you are wealthy, you can never be cutting edge two years in a row. If your bow is still taking deer, then it works. You will have to decide if you can afford it. Looking at the prices that you posted, the guy isn't giving you any breaks.

For a few years there bows were really changing fast. Speeds kept increasing, new cams were coming out, they were getting smoother and more vibration free, yet retaining speed. But now things have sort of slowed down. If there is much of a difference between what you have and a simular newer bow it will not be that big, especially in the same company.

Now if you had a 5-10 year old bow and wanted to upgrade I would be inclined to say you would be able to tell the difference in a newer one. Really depends on the model and type of bow though. They don't all shoot the same, even the new ones. I have shot two models of Mathews back to back and they were totally different.

My best advice is to just go try some and see what you think. If you pick one up and it feels and shoots much nicer than the one you have and it's important to you then do it if you want. However the one you have is more than capable of killing deer and being shock free and silent. If your not happy with the way your current bow feels when you shoot it I would try some limb savers, a different stabilizer and some better string silencers. This would be much cheaper than a new bow. I even put the NV system on my bowtech. The technology is out there to tame any bow down if you try hard enough.

I also have an o3 Patriot. To be honest it has sat in the case since November when I filled my deer tag. During that time I have been reading all the reviews and mouth foaming testimonials about the new bows and had myself convinced I needed one too. Then last weekend I took it out and shot it a bit ( Its winter up here ) and was surprised I had forgotten how smooth and silent that bow actually is. I have no doubt an 06 is a little faster ( maybe 10 ft or so ) and slightly quieter but from what I have held in my hands the new push for speed has forced the new bows to have much harsher draw cycles that load early and hold right to the wall. That makes a harder drawing bow IMHO and when hanging from a tree in November and taking only 25 yd shots anyway its crazy to go that route for me. It snows here in November and its cold as hell. I don't need to increase the effort to draw and shoot a bow. So. Im going to upgrade my arrows and my sight instead and wait and see if there is something even better in 07. The Patriot is alot of bow even in2006.

btw i am looking for a Chevy truck, dunno what year or anything but Chevy is pretty much the only way to go
