RE: Too Windy or not????
Thats not too windy. When its 25-30 thats the best time to still hunt IMO. Work with a cross wind, the deer tend to stand and feed facing down wind in denser areas.

RE: Too Windy or not????
I would definitely go in that type of windy. I would not stay out if there were sustained winds over 25 mph. Or gusts over 40 mph.

RE: Too Windy or not????
2 of the biggest deer I have ever seen was in super strong winds 20-30 mph. they where acting just fine like nothing was wrong...they where following the creek beds and boy do I wish i would have set my stand up down there! I never got a shot at them :-(

RE: Too Windy or not????
This month's N.A. Whitetail magazine has an article on weather conditions. Apparently, the deer seem to like winds of 10-15 mph the best. Once winds get over 20, the sightings decreased proportionately. Finding the lee side of a hill--or another wind breaking topographical feature can put you in a hot spot during high winds.

RE: Too Windy or not????
Thats not to windy, i just wouldnt get up in a tree stand, cause it scares me when my tree moves when im in it, i would just stay on the gound at make sure i have good scent.

In that type of wind you would definetely see me in the woods and i wouldnt think it would affect the deer unless they got downwind of ya

RE: Too Windy or not????
Deer get nervous when it's windy because they can't distinguish danger sounds or movement as easily. Their sense of smell is affected also(obviously). You may not see as many from your stand as usual but they still need to eat.
Great opportunity to still hunt! On very windy days, I NEED to go hunting. When the weather channel says "gusting winds to 25mph" I literally wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. |
