pet grouse?

so one day i am at my friends hosue and we were squirrel hunting in his backard. he is telling me a story about his pet grouse and he says that he named it hunter. At this point i am thinking wow he has it in a cage.
as we get about a mile from his house and a 1/2 into the woods he says "HUNTER". who are you calling to i ask, he says my pet grouse! i coudnt belive it a grouse comes struting around the croner and follows us through the hunt, well at this point we stopped hunting and paid more attension to the grouse. Well, he come up to his back door and almost into the living room. this was odd and all through the rest of his bowseason, he didn't hunt that much because th4e grouse would always be on his stand or on his head. He had his bow t full draw and the deer were frighteds by the crackle of the bird's wings as he flew off his head and into the woods

I have heard of this but never seen it till this year, anyone else have accounts like this?

Did he raise the grouse and then turn it loose? It is definitlely unusual
behavior for a wild animal. However there ain't no grouse in Texas so
I am not familiar with them.

I got a grouse Monday with my bow at about 30 yards. Just hadhim in a stew for dinner. Ummm umm good! Tell your buddy keep that grouse away from meotherwise you know what. :D

Oh, andthe pet grouse had to have been raised. No wild animal is just gonna follow you into the house like that. The day that happens I'm gonna keep my front door open and go looking for 200" bucks.

It happens often in Michigan... They are not raised they are just very curious and find that some humans (usually bow hunters) will not harm them and they tag along.

Yep, this is not an uncommon occurance. They often follow tractors, and have even been known to hop up onto 4 wheelers left running. Some suggest the thump of the motor is similar to their drumming. Im not sure about that, as many who run a chain saw get the same reaction from grouse. I have heard of many folks being "befriended" by ruffed grouse. Its just something that some of them do.
