I know little about climbing stands. Is the bar that wraps around the front of the stand to sit on while climbing, or is it there for a different reason?

well I don't no about the viper. I have the summit 180, and the bar in the front is what I use to climb instead of taking the seat apart and put it back again. to much trouble

It's there for sitting while climbing, but I guess you could leave it down while hunting. It's a great stand.

You can't leave it down while hunting.....because it's in a fixed position.

It's a great stand (we own one).....but the rail is also an obstacle when bow hunting. If I had it to do over again.....I'd get the razor.

great stand,the rails nice for laying your Bow across,i stand up to shoot so it dont get in my way,
