Rubber Boots

Alrite i have a question, I was looking to buy a pair of the knee high Rubber boots for hunting because i hear so much how they dont absorb scent and they dont disperse it. I read on the scentblocker website that rubber boots are a scent factory and that as you walk you are pushing air out of the boot and spreading your scent around. I just wanted to know what anyones opinion is on this or if i should just stick with gore tex boots with scen lok or super scent in them? Thanks

I swear by the LaCrosse rubber boots I always hunt in (I use several pairs). All I do is spray them down with Carbon Blast before I head to y stand and I don't have any problems. In fact, I have seen mature P&Y class animals walks past my entry trail only minutes after I have passed and they never had a clue!

I haven't used rubber boots but I sure do see alot of good hunters using them. Just remember, regardless of what boot you decide to use, make sure you spray those suckers down with as much scent eliminatingspray as you can. The day I soaked my boots down with spray I didn't have a single deer get spooked, even after I walked down the path they were using.

I think the key is to get rid of the scent that is already on the boots and make sure you use a moisture wicking sock to help move moisture and sweat away from your feet. Then over the moisture wicking sock wear a pair of fleece socks if you need to keep your feet warm.

that probably happens.....but to a degree. your wearing clean socks usually. the outerboot being rubber doesn't hold or trap scent so you could were them in your truck or house. go to your hunt location. step in a puddles and thats it, clean right. sometimes i flp my scent lok suit over the boots. but i don't worry about scent to your degree to much. i always cover with doe/buck urine. i practice dragging. i set bombs up around my stand always. i've got in actuality some much piss scent around me at all times that i probably couldeat a burger, smoke a cig and chew on strawberry bubble gun and still have deer come around me.

Rubber boots are key... If a deer should cross your path (which hopefully you'll get a setup where that shouldn't happen) they will be ALOT less likely to smell you with rubber boots... BUT... Wearing them in your truck, getting gas, coffee, in the house, ect... Scent is going to get on them... MAYBE walking through mud or a creek would wash away some of that... But why chance it... I use Scent Safe bags and I have one specifically for my boots... I do not get dressed in ANYTHING that I wear into the woods until I get out of my truck and get ready to walk in... That includes my boots... Everything I take into the woods except my weapon (which is stored with scent wafers) is kept in that bag until I get where I am going...

Maybe I take it too far... But I put alot of effort into my hunting, and it's the little things that get you close...IMO...

Good luck with your decision...

hvyhitter hit the nail on the head! I use rubber boots and have great luck with them, but they never get worn inside the truck or garage or anywhere except the woods. I store them in plastic bags and put them on when I get to my hunting spot. They even stay in the bag all summer. I've had several deer this season cross my path and none of them picked up any scent at all! Believe me, after 20 + years of deer hunting I've learned my lessons! PROTECT YOUR BOOTS FROM ANY FOREIGN SCENT!

I call B.S. on that one. Sounds like Scentblocker is trying to protect their marketshare. I've been wearing rubber boots for the last five years, and have yet to get busted by a deer cutting my trail. You just have to be careful to eliminate scent where possible and control it everywhere else.

I use rubber boots and pull my scent blocker pants over the top of them...problem solved!

I wear Lacrosse rubber boots and love them. The way hvyhitter
takes care of his boots and hunting clothes is a perfect example
on how to do it.
