I agree with Bull. When you can count your heartrate without feeling your pulse cause its pounding in your ears, its best to be sure you don't have room for a mistake. more than 1-2 pins leaves that room
Hey, size may not matter but it sure IS nice! |
RE: sites and distance
I use one pin set at 20 yds. My aiming points are dead on at 5 yds and 20 yds. At 10 - 15 yds, I aim at the underbelly (heart) and the arrow goes to a low lung shot.
At 25yds, I put the pin at the top of the shoulder. My arrows are heavy so if I underestimate the range (and he's really 30 yds) - I miss cleanly. The deer in my woods are movers. They are walking, turning left, eating, turning right .... the distance is constantly changing. My set up works well for me. If I were an antelope hunter, I may add a second or third pin for those 40 yd shots I hear about in the west. |
RE: sites and distance
YJ, you didn't say what kind of arrow speed you have but you should NOT need any pins under 20 yards. If your bow is fairly new and efficient, probably 25 yards. Sight in at 20-25 yards and shoot a little at the shorter ranges so you will know how to compensate. I'd bet you are not more than a couple of inches high anywhere in there. I personally have 2 pins on my bow, 25 and 35, less is usually better..Fletch

RE: sites and distance
One pin for hunting. I set one at 20 yards and don't shoot past 30 yards. Its less confusing. From 0-20 its right on and at 30 I aim about 3 inches high on the deer. Your bow would probably be different, so practice, practice, practice!
PRACTICE....PRACTICE....PRACTICE......SUCCESS! |
RE: sites and distance
I only use two pins my first one is out to 30yds and the second is 40 yds. My Martin is shooting at 272fps at 55 lbs pull with carbon arrows and 100 gr heads. This way there is not a lot of guess work in it I like to keep my shots at under 30 so I need only one pin for hunting.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: sites and distance
I use one pin for 0-20yards and a second pin for 20-30yards.
