Default My First Buck with a Bow. a little long

This could be a little long but its how my day went.
My day started off waking up at 6:30 Tuesday morning. Getting ready and heading out to pick up my hunting partner. As I was walking out my door, I heard rain falling. I was like oh great. I quickly ran to the tv and turned on the local news. I work for the one of the local tv staions so i knew the weather was coming up in a minute or 2. As luck would have it, it was a passing shower and didnt appear that it was going to last too long. So I preceded out the door to pick up my friend.
We hit the road about 7 am for the 70 mile drive. We had decided a couple days earlier that we were going to pass up the morning hunt. With the rain that was still falling, I was glad.
We get to his mom and dads a little after 8 and we head off for our firsst run/push. As Im making the first push, I run up on a doe in a tree row. She stands up and just stares at me. At 50 yards, all I could do was stare back. I dont feel to comfortable at 35 yards, I sure want going to try 50. I dropped to my knees and just sat there and watched her for about 5 minutes. Not the best Idea becsue now my legs were getting soaked. She started stomping, and edging a little towards me trying to figure me out but finally got frustrated and took off running for the pond. As I walked to the pond, my friend had apparently scared up a couple of fawns which came running my way. One of these picked the trail that he wanted to go up but it also happened to be the trail I was on. To say the least it suprised us both. When he saw me and stopped I litterally could have scratched his head for him.
Well, that push proved unsucsessful. We went on to our favorite place and I pushed one more time. I was able to get a couple of deer to pass by him but they wernt what he wanted so he let them go. He did get a shot off at one that snuck up behind him but it all happened so fast he never got his sights on it and shot underneath of him.
Well now it was my turn to sit. His walk was going to be twice as long as both walks I had done that morning so he took off before I even got in the truck to go where I was going to stand. When I park the truck, I had no idea where I was going to stand, so I just walked to the river and then started walking in the direction he was coming from till I found a spot that I was happy with.
The spot I chose was between 3 tree trunks that allowed me a view and multiple shots in every direction. the river bank was 20 yards to my left. the edge of the woods was 30 yards to my right. A very nice view of what was coming my way in front and about an 1/8th of a mile up the river was bend with a stretch of trees only 2 or 3 trees deep. This is where I was going to see the deer first. Well, it worked. Before too long, actually it felt like forever, I saw 2 deer go flying by that spot down the river. I told myself, the second ones bigger, wait for that. I had no idea which one i was going to see first when they came by because the woods got real thick again before they ever got to me. When they came into my view, they were both Does and rather small. they walked past and started eating acorns right in front of me.
A mistake I sorta made was getting excited about seeing those 2 deer and getting set up for them. I dint continue to look down the river to see if anything else was coming. While Im looking at these 2 doe, I see something out of the corner of my eye. I turn my head and the first thing I see is antlers. That was actually the last time I saw them too, for a while anyways. I focus my excitement and see that this buck is only 10 yards away. He is slowly walking but stopped becasue he saw some movement. Mine, from trying to raise the bow and pull back at the same time. I sucsessfully get pulled back and he dismissed the movement and went on eating some acorns. My shot ended up being between a fallen down tree and one of its limbs. I released and saw the arrow hit just an inch or 2 further back than I had intended, darn broadheads. It was then that i saw movement behind me. When I say behind me, I mean 4 or 5 feet. I have no clue wether it was a buck or a doe but where ive been hunting, the bucks have been hanging together quite reguraly. So it could have been one and maybe even bigger than this one. Dont know. Never saw it till it ran and then it was just a flash. Anyways, I watch my buck go crashing off into the woods in the wrong direction. He could have gotten closer to the truck, lol. I watched him go about 50 yards away down to this one tree and then I lost sight of him. I waited for about 15 minutes and my friend finally showed up. I showed him where I shot him and we stared to track it even though I knew where it went. We followed the trail down to the tree that I last saw it and low and behold, there it was. The reason I lost sight of it as because it circled the tree and layed down right there. i finally get to see the rack again and it turned out to be a 9 point. I estimated its weight around 190 before I touched it.
This was a great adventure for me. Ive hunted beofore with a gun but it was never as intense as this was. Ive had 2 meals so far with the venison harvested. Very good.
I have 1 doe tag left and I will be going again this monday. Cant wait
