60 yd pin

I currently have a 3 pin sight.....and I practice out to 40 yds.

I WANT a 5 pin sight.....so that I can practice to 60 yds. I've noticed my confidence has gone WAY up from inside 40.....since I started practicing from that distance. I've also read that 75% of your practice shots should be shot from 2X your "actual" kill range. this makes sense to me.

So.....I'm in the market for a new 5 pin sight. I'm leaning towards the Spot-Hogg Hunter.

Any comments on this approach??

can you just buy extra pins for the sight you currently have?

Yes, practicing at long distance will increase your confidencea bunch.

Confidence is critical to good shooting as I am sure you know. When my confidence isn't up I really notice it in my scores. I would say I drop5-8 points off my 3D average when I am notat 100% confidence.

I just picked up the Sure Loc Sidewinder 5 pin micro adjust. It is pretty nice and at $120 it isn't a bad buy. Although I still plan to pick up a spot hogg hogg it for 3D season.

Best of luck!

Yes. I can purchase extra pins for my current sight......but I thought I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone and oreder a new one. I bought my son a new bow for Christmas. I already have an extra rest.....and I wanted to put a sight on his old bow .....to be able to sell it "ready to hunt".

Long story short....I was going to have to buy a new sight anyways.....so I thought I'd get ME one....lol.

Thanks, guys.

SBGobblers

You have got to check out www.mtnarchery.com I just bought my Spot Hogg Hunter sight and love it. They are on sale big time. Only $119. It showed up at my house two days after I ordered it. High quality sight with 5 pins that you can pick if you want .019 or .029 diameter. Dang...I just checked their web sight and it is no longer on sale...sorry.

I actually use a Pendulum sight for my main tree stand bow, however, I use my other bows for target practice. I only shoot while practicing from 40 and 60 yards. Its really helped me from 40 yards and in to be rock steady and confident. Its basically trained me to be a better shooter from 0-40 yards.

Let me be the oddball and tell you that you may want to make sure you're setup will work with a 5-pin. I have a 5-pin trophy ridge that has been "overlapped" to become a 3 pin. My peep is close enough to the nock that you simply cant get a pin down to 60yards and still have broadheads clear the bottom of the window. I shoot a mild speed (235-245?) and 125gr tips...even with this setup a 20,35,50 pin works fine. Just .02

I'm shooting 265+FPS. You know, though......I REALLY appreciate that response. I did NOT think of that.
