What About Ghillie's?
Does anyone on hear hunt with a ghillie suit? (for the uninitiated thats the sniper style suit usually made from burlap strips or jute string tied to a netting glued to something like a BDU jacket. and the same to a boonie hat) If so what has been the effect? Any success stories? If not, then is there any special reason not to??

RE: What About Ghillie's?
I've thought about it and wanted to but they're too expensive to buy and seem like a pain to make. It might be a bit of an over kill as well. But if you look at these new 3D suits aren't they just a toned down guillie suit? If you find one for cheap let me know, I'd try it.

RE: What About Ghillie's?
I tried my neighbor’s ghillie suit. Practiced shooting my bow with it. About took off my head because of it.
Those long loops of jute or burlap are tough to keep track of when you are concentrating on the target. All it took was one little jute string to get caught up in the bowstring as I released....you figure it out. I would have to trim so much of this thing down to make it work, didn't think it was worth it. I bought a 3D suit from ASAT instead. Breaks up the human form & doesn't interfere with my shooting form. "It's not the kill, it's the adventure and challenge! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>" |
RE: What About Ghillie's?
Thanks for the reply. I hunt with a ghillie and have done so successfully with a bow. Made mine as they are so expensive. Made mine with bowhunting in mind. that means careful of the string positioned on the left arm and breast(I am right handed). Don't think the 3D's are that good for breaking up the human form but are better than the old 2d camo. Lots of info out there on the ghillie's. My thought was that if this is what the guys trusted when their life was on the line then it was a thought.

Hey the ghillie suit is for Marine Snipers, not for hunters, or is it?

RE: What About Ghillie's?
My bud got one 3 years ago. It's too hot for most AZ hunting and no way can you shoot a bow with confidence in it unless you cut down the whole front. It does work good for rifle and ML hunts. I won't be buying one. Rather put money into a double bull blind.
