2000 Mule Deer Story and Pics
I don't think I ever posted this deer on this website. I also just got a new digital camera and wanted to play a little. Well, here's the story:
It was Sept. 23 in SE Wyoming and we had a freak snowstorm the night before. We recieved about 8" of snow. Well the obvious camo selection was white! We had seen several decent bucks on a hay field several days before but had no idea how the snow would affect them. Well at first light we glass the hay field and find about 50 deer and at least 8 would make P & Y!!!!! Well there is a series of timbered breaks coming off of this field so it was a cat and mouse game trying to figure out were they were going to bed naturally we guessed wrong on several occassions but after about 2 hours we finally put him and several other good deer to bed. Well the smart boogers bedded in exactly the only place you couldn't make a decent stalk. There's was only one way to get to them and that was belly crawling across the wide open.....now I don't know what white camo does to a deer but it must make you invisible. I crawled across a bare ridge in full view of 30 deer and never caused a second look from them. Now I find myself 35 yards from the biggest muley in the bunch. Well now I get to stand there and watch this deer sleep for nearly an hour. Well finall he stands up.. and that's all she wrote..40 yards later I had my deer....Official Pope and Young Score is 180 5/8.....

Actually right behind me is about a 6 foot cliff that we had to drag him up. He died in about the worst spot possible. It was so crammed down there we couldn't even gut him down there.
