stupid squirrels

well i decide to shoot at a squirrel yesturday cause i wasnt seein nothin, and i was usin one of the NAP shockwaves that i was goin to use for huntin this year, before i switched to stinger. But anyway i shot at the squirrel and missed low and heard a loud pop, so i went to retrieve my arrow and it was missin most of one blade and part of another, and i found what it hit and it was a small stick about 2in. in diameter with one blade stuck in it and u could see were the point had hit it on the very bottom of the stick,,guess that should teach me to look a little before i shoot so that it dont happen agian. oh well chit happens. (by the way i did not see a friggin thing that evenin and neither did my dad and he was dissapointed in the property cause we have only seen one deer on the property)

I use field tips and adder points for shootin at squirrels, much cheaper!

You won't ever see deer if you keep shooting that bow when you are deer hunting. AS I am sure you are finding out deer hunting takes a ton of paitence. Try to be still and quiet. Keep at it and good luck.

Sling shot for squirrels is sweet when your bored in the woods. I once took out a branch the squirrel was sitting on it fell about 40 ft couldnt stop laughin.

How did he handle that fall?

Hey man, what if some giant thought it would be funny to the point he couldn't stop laughing if he shot aboulder at the tree you had your stand in to watch you fall 20 feet to the ground?

Seriously and on the subject, I'm tempted many times to shoot at squirrels but in the back of my mind I alwaysthink, "what if that buck is on the edge of some brush pile looking this way just confirming clearance to come out?"

He actually handled it pretty well from what i saw. Alittle dazed then quickly got up another tree, im sure if he wouldve saw me he wouldve came with a vengeance. lol
When i have to worry about a giant shooting a boulder at my tree stand is when ill never hunt again.

i've never had an opportunity to shoot a squirrel with a bow while hunting. but i've had many thoughts while hunting hogs with my 44. have any of ya'll ever had a squirrel on the same tree as you come and play hide and seek around your tree???

I have actually been paying alot of attention to the little annoying ****s the past few times ive been out. Now that all the leaves are off the trees the way they make their way aournd using the tops of trees and little branches on the ground trying not to make as much noise...interesting. Im going to be doing some late season squirrel hunting...the population has exploded where im at..need a little thinning out.

nothin wrong with droppin a squirl, good meat. But i've seen a 22 bounce off the skull of one so it fallin for a few feet aint hurtin nothing. Besides the only diffrence between a squirl and a rat is a fuzy tail... If i dropped a rat 30 feet from a tree i dount anyone would care...

The bushy tailed tree rats sometimes help you by barking at those big boys when they are lurking around. But I have shot at a few be4. I just love it when you hit under them and they jump and then hide on a side of a tree looking like what the ****.

Hey, all good if squirrels are being killed and put to use. I myself just prefernot kill something unless I'm gonna eat it.

And just curious... to the guy who saw a 22 bounce off a squirrel's head, how did you witness that? In super duper slow mo camera replay? I just can't fathom being able to see a 1000+fps 40 grain pea in flight.

try using a .22 WMR (HOLY CRAP THEY'RE ACCURATE) for the squirrels and maybe next time bring a slingshot, a bunch of 2 square inch pieces of cloth and rocks. then wrap the rocks up in the cloth and tying a loose twistie around the porthole of the cloth and kill the squirrel. it always works at my grandma and grandpas house.

I'v shot a few with field points but always feel like I might be blowing the hunt.
I too find it hard to believe a 22 bounced off a squirrels head. I usta shoot alot of squirrels before I found bowhunting & prefered head shots. Regular 22's busted them up pretty good & holowpoints just about decapitate them. Heck my pellet gun, a crossman pump up pistol rated I think at 5 or 6 hundred fps makes it thru their skulls most times, might not pass thru but it sure put their lights out. :D
Squirrels are good eating if you get enuff, I need 8 or 10 before I'll cook them. Either cooking like chicken & rice or roasting the whole bunch at a low temp till theyre tender, takes a long time but worth it IMO. Sometimes I cut them up & brown the meat a little then dump it in tomato sauceb to finish cooking.

i shot one and the arrow went right through him and the carbon arrow exploded when it hit the tree behind it. there was a 4 inch long peice with the vanes that was still intact, the rest was dust.

Sooting a few squirrels isn't anything like 'blowing a hunt.' The hunt is still on, just the object of the hunt has shifted from deer to squirrels. I've done it more often than not. Rabbits too. The meat is tasty and the fur makes excellent fly tying materials.

I always carry a couple of arrows with blunts or old broadheads specially for loading up a bag of small game.

I've had some annoyances with armadillos before, but not squirells. I've been tempted to shoot an armadillo before...it's not really that challenging when they just walk around your tree though.

Last Sunday a tree rat helped me figure out how close a deer was. I heard the leaves crunching, but when that squirrel sounded off real close, I knew it was game time. Too bad I lost the game, lol. The deer stopped moving and I tried to coax it a few more steps with a soft grunt, it just bolted back the way it came. Maybe it was a doe not wanting to deal with a buck in the mood?? Oh well...

We have a big squiril problem in our deer hunting spots here, but i just havent brought myself to try to stick one yet. I guess i am just to afraid of lossing the arrow or breaking it.
