can call / doe in estrous call
Has anyone ever used this, and is there any certain way that works best?
I have heard it is suppose to work great, but Ihave not had any luck with it so far. Is there a sequence to use like 3 times in a row or once every 30 seconds? Do I combine it with a buck grunt? If anyone can tell me what has worked for them successfully I would appreciate it! In years past I have always just used a grunt tube but thought I might give this a try. Thanks aheadof time for your responses. |

I would make about 3 or 4 bleets than keep quiet for about 30min. If something comes in and is looking around just give him a soft one to stear him in.

Um, don't let the can go through the whole call. Cut it off halfway. I just watched a show on TV, and that is what it said. A full drawn out call with the whole can, (letting the diaphram go from top to bottom of can) is some sort of a distress call. Dunno, give it a try.

I've used it but never had a deer respond to it - Same with my hunting partner.

RE: can call / doe in estrous call
I wouldn't hit the woods without it this time of year. As with any call, they have to be within earshot for it to work. For this reason, I use the hell out of it. It's basically just a social doe call. I make about 3 or 4 bleats(sometimes throw in a couple half bleats in there also like he said above) I repeat this a couple or 3 series with maybe a minute in between. I then wait a minute or two and then grunt like a buck is trailing her. I heard a buck one time making a grunt with every step he took behind a doe so I mimic him. I had several come in this week to it. If I'm rattling, I then throw in a rattle sequence after the grunting. Good Luck.

As with anything else, you have to take into account where you are hunting. I hunt some pressured places and generally the bucks don't respond to aggressive calling.

RE: can call / doe in estrous call
i agree with use half the can to call. was using some bleat calls 2-3 followed by some tending, soft grunts and i got this little 6 to come in to check out the area. i never use them on windy days unless u are getting those short periods of silence in between the gusts. i think the can works 20% of the time i use it. i think u should throw out some scent with it thou. just one more thing they can pick up on to make the experience seem more realistic. shadowace's waiting after a bleat and do some grunting is a nice technique to. the peak is probably over but there are still a good # of yearlings/mature doe that have yet to go into heat i say. become one and bag a SLOB:)

RE: can call / doe in estrous call
I find it interesting and would have like to see that show calling that call a distress call. It's not as far as my research indicates. The Can imitates a contact call which rises and falls in pitch. It can be imitated using any bleat call. As far as a estrous call, there is not research indicating that doe make an estrous bleat, again, it's a contact call.
