Fantastic topic!

I learned that you see 20 times the deer during bow than you do during gun, that when you are setting up your stand you must make sure you can shoot through any opening around your stand without hitting a limb full of dry leaves even if you are sure a deer would never come from that direction!!!! I learned that even though you may not get true buck fever, if you forget one thing when shooting you will MISS!!! I missed my anchor point, knew it the split second I released. I re-enforced my belief in setting up stands as far ahead of the season as possible and preseason scouting as much as possible.

The most important thing I learned???? How fantastic it is to take your kids hunting!!!

I learned one thing and that is why have I wasted so much time before starting to bowhunt. This is my first season and I'm hooked . Better late than never I guess

I learned to try and stay calm when a shooting opportunity presents itself, and use the correct pin!#@%&. That indeed, a shot over 20 yards is a long shot when hunting, even though we had been target shooting out to 60 yrds. That more pre-season scouting is required, and I don't shoot as well when my off season shooting is severely limited.

I learned a tough lesson about tracking a wounded Elk. I also learned that a dead elk left lay over night can be consumed by a pack of coyotes in a hurry.

One thing that stood out was the fact that most of my buck sightings were after 9am in the morning and kept going on and off right till about 1pm. So after getting into my stand about 1/2hr before daylight the fact that buck sightings were more prevalent after 9am, sure made for a long stay in the stand. I have also seen buck movement earlier as well, hence not missin' those earlier hours!! This was the biggest lesson learned this year, &quot;stayin' put&quot;!!!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
