I was thinking damn fine buck but, don't give up your day job. Who was it, I don't remember...but basically it went, "Say what you mean and stop throwing in words that detract from your story". To much descriptive narration becomes tedious and is not a smooth read. Hemmingway you're not.[8D]
I enjoyed the story very much. Antler Eater is by far one of my favorite reads. The man has knowledge and puts it to words very well. Unlike a lot of posters who just crawled out from under their rock.

I wish I could write like he does. Once again a big congrats on the fine buck and the outstanding narration.

"Say what you mean and stop throwing in words that detract from your story".
This is true in journalism; absolutely the farthest thing from it when creating narrative prose. But, hey, what would I know, I only hold an undergraduate degree in journalism with an emphasis in news and editorial writing, editing three different papers before going back and obtaining a master's in English with an emphasis in teaching rhetoric and composition and teaching four years at a division I university.

I'm tempted to say I would have given that piece an "A" in one of my classes, but I won't because I never saw writing that good from any of my students -- including the honors students who came through who had received the highest possible score on their entrance exams.

David, I believe you know deer hunting, but excellent writing you do not.

Antler,

That's the finest piece of writing I have everread on a thread here in HNI; hands down.

Anyone who has studied/practiced writing, would agree that your work is quality.

Now can I ask a favor? Any possibilityyou could pm or emailme any other stories and pictures ofpast bucks, I would love to read/see them.I know I can learn from you, both from a whitetail bowhunting perspectiveand from a writing standpoint!

Thanks again fordeliveringtwovery fine pieces of artwork. I am happy for you to say the least.

Oh ,,,,OH.... the misery of it all. That hurts all the way to my blue undies. I think I'm going to go sit in the corner and cry. Sticks and stones and all that [8D][8D][8D]

AE, I'll say it again. You are one of the best damn writers I've ever had the pleasure of reading. You provide just the right amount ofdetails to make us feel like we werein your shoes, which is not easy to do.But I'm sure you know that and couldn't care less about anyone criticizing yourwriting.

I am an avid reader and a professional business writer(though you can't always tell from my posts). I also graduated from college with a bachelors and masters in Journalism. My point is that I read a lot of articles and pieces of writing on a daily basis and I always look forward to AE's posts because they are some of the best I am exposed to.

If for some reason you don't like the writing, and just want to see the picture, skip to the bottom and take a gander at that monster heearned through hard scouting and hunting.
