Rocky Snypers
Well thanks to reading all of 5 Shots broadhead reports this diehard fixed blade only hunter decided to try out some of these newfangled mechanicals.
Saturday was the PA opener, and I set out to shoot the first mature doe to come past me with a rocky snyper. It did not take very long, about 8:15am when the first full size doe gave me a 15yd. broadside shot. Now I know one experience with these heads do not give me enough info to close the book on their value, but I must admit I was impressed by the performance of the snyper! The thing that probably impressed me most was the lack of a huge gaping slash going in! When I see these 3-4" gashes entering the animal, that tells me that the head pushed the hide about halfway to the other side of the deer before opening the hide up. That HAS TO impede penetration. The snyper left an entrance hole that looked identical to the exit hole. I did not try to measure it, but it looked to be in the neighborhood of the 1 3/16" diameter they are advertised to be. I am shooting about 65lb. of KE, and the arrow penetrated the ground as far as my thunderheads do. I video taped me pulling the arrow out of the ground, I had to wiggle it pretty good to get it to come out! Absolutely no damage to the head or blades. It did shear off a rib bone on the far side, but going in I could not find any rib damage. I am still a fixed blade guy, but the snypers did the job this time! NRA,UBP,BASS Member New Stanton,PA |
RE: Rocky Snypers
I have always shot Thunderheads but I also tried the Snypers this weekend. I took a decent 9 point with the Snyper on Sunday morning I was very impressed, they functioned and performed as well as the fixed blades I used on deer. I'm in the process of tring to post the pictures now.

RE: Rocky Snypers
That's the findings I found last season Big Country. Although my shot placement was ideal, the Snyper did it's job. I was impressed with the entrance hole and the exit hole. This year I anticipate further field study.

I am glad they worked well for you. You experience sounds very similer to mine last year.
