Sort of new, just a few questions.

Hey guys, I've been into archery for around 4 years but never went hunting. I always had intrest but never had the time, nor did I know a lot. I was just wondering if you guys can give me some advice. I've been reading a lot of posts here and you guys are very informative, and know what your talking about so heres what I wanna know.

How hard is it to field dress a deer? I heard the smell is overwhelming but is it really that hard? That I guess you take it to a butcher?

Is it a good idea to go on a guided trip for my first time to "learn the ropes?" I live in NY (On LI about 30 min away from NYC) and was planning on going towards Lake George and go with a guided outfitter for 3 days.

I also want to have a setup to hunt bear if I ever get the chance so a 60# draw should be sufficent, right? If so how's the osgood cherokee bow. Well it's probably a step up from my 3 year old PSE Nova.

Now I have such an arge to go hunting but since im getting my license and talking the bowhunting couse in Feb. what should I do untill I can go. It's gonna be about a year and I feel like I can't wait that long. Any good books to read or anything to help me prepare?

This is for anyone that lives in Suffolk, how is the hunting out east and is it worth going? I live about 2 hours from Montauk, and about 1 hour from Wading River.

Thanks a lot im gonna read some more of these forums.

Hah, just remembered this. I basicly have my mind set on not shooting anything less than a 6 pointerwhich probably wont happen my first time out. Did any of you guys think like this and end up shooting a doe or anything?

Well you have a whole year of reading to become an expert. Welcome to the forum. Field dressing a deer is not a big deal once you have done it a few times. But please take a video of you doing it your first time. Just practice and keep reading and learning but nothing is going to teach you like hunting on your own.

Yeah I understand that. I just don't want to mess it up when I do it. That's basicly my biggest councern. How long does it avergly take to do?

About 10 to 15 minutes not that big of a deal. I bet if you do a google search you can even find a how to free clip of it.

It might take over 15 minutes, if your being very careful and making sure you don't cut the bladder or something like that. Also about your other question about getting a guide to take you out, you might be able to maybe find a friend or something that may hunt that you could maybe tag along with. Well good luck to yah if you do decide to go out!!! Oh ya and about the smell, if you just put it aside and focus, you can sometimes forget about it.....still its stinky!

Yeah that's why I was thinking of going with a guide this way if I do harvest one he can show me how to dress it.

on your question about the anything under a six pass...let me tell you... you're gonna be just as happy with your first deer whether its a yearling doe or a monster buck either way you're gonna be excited!!

A good quote for a first year hunter ( IF IT'S BROWN, IT'S DOWN);)
